Firefighters in Ubon Ratchathani swiftly quelled a blaze on the eighth floor of a prominent four-star hotel where newlyweds had celebrated just the night before. The fire broke out at 1 pm on March 9 in the hotel on Chayangkul Road, prompting a quick response from municipal fire services and rescue personnel.

Arriving at the scene, responders encountered heavy smoke pouring from room 802. Firefighters navigated the smoke-filled corridor to extinguish the flames, which took roughly 30 minutes to control successfully. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

A hotel guest identified as A, newly wed the previous evening, described hearing a crackling sound like an electrical short circuit while showering. Though the fire began on the opposite side, smoke quickly alerted him and his partner to the danger. Attempts to activate the fire alarm were futile, as the system was non-functional. Despite the lift being operational, guests successfully reached the ground floor to alert staff, though initial concerns were met with indifference.

Preliminary investigations point to a short circuit, potentially from a kettle or minibar fridge, spreading flames to wooden furniture. However, further forensic analysis is expected to confirm this theory.

At the time, 38 rooms were occupied, but the hotel's swift evacuation and the fire brigade's prompt response prevented any casualties. The incident underscores the importance of functional safety systems in ensuring guest safety, reported The Thaiger.
