Blocked pop up informing me of new posts.

Until recently, if I was responding to a post and there were new replies to the same topic, a little black pop-up would appear at the bottom of the screen which I could click on and have the new replies added to the chain of posts.  But recently, that little black pop up has been overlaid with an ad trying to make me click on some link that I will NEVER click on.  Is that some short of a new way to make my life difficult?  If so, it's not working. And it never will.
