You can read it - it's erasing DEI wording mostly. But what jumped out at me is the erasure of 'woman' and 'female' - no restrictions on the use of 'men' or 'male' that I could see.

 

How can they erase the words woman and female from government documents? What about birth certificates? What about other standard referencces?

 

Weird.

But I must add that within the workplace, an employer does have quite a bit of leeway in determining what an employee may or may not say within the scope if their work. I think this would also apply when the government is the employer.

"Discouraged" was the NYT writer's clickbait headline wording.

The text said "limit or avoid."  There is no citation from any government memo outright banning anything.

 

Even the author admits "All presidential administrations change the language used in official communications to reflect their own policies."
