Previously on February 26, Amaris Cocktail and Wine Bar in Bangkok hosted a one-night event featuring Ruang Khao Siam Sapphire, a celebrated Thai rum with a history spanning over 200 years. The event, titled A Timeless Night Inspired by a Timeless Thai Treasure, gave guests a chance to immerse themselves in the flavours and history of this iconic rum, enjoying expertly crafted cocktails and celebrating its rich cultural heritage.

A legacy of Thai craftsmanship

  • Rich history: First introduced in 1786, Ruang Khao has become a significant name in Thailand’s distilling industry, reflecting centuries of craftsmanship and tradition.

  • Aged to perfection: The Siam Sapphire variant is aged in oak barrels, resulting in a smooth, slightly sweet taste with notes of caramel, vanilla, and spice. This gives the rum a depth of flavour that is perfect for sipping neat or using as the base for cocktails.

  • Versatile spirit: Enjoy it in classic cocktails or as a standalone drink, showcasing its rich flavour and versatility.

The event also highlighted the bottle design of Ruang Khao Siam Sapphire, which tells its own story. The shape of the bottle is inspired by traditional Thai water jugs, while the deep sapphire colour pays tribute to Thailand’s famous gemstones.

Upon closer inspection, guests discovered a map of Ancient Siam, drawn by the French diplomat Simon de La Loubère during the reign of King Narai. This design is a modern nod to the past, making the bottle not just a drink but a meaningful gift and souvenir from Thailand.

Signature cocktails at the event

Guests were treated to three signature cocktails crafted with Ruang Khao Siam Sapphire, each showcasing the rum's complex flavours:

  • Kington Negroni: A twist on the classic with aged rum, adding a rich, caramel flavour.

  • Phrao: A light, floral cocktail with chrysanthemum-bay leaf cordial, coconut water, and citric acid, highlighting the rum’s natural sweetness.

  • Yum Som O: A punchy mix of pink grapefruit, lime, egg white, and pomelo, with a touch of chilli for a spicy finish.

Additionally, the menu included:

  • Siam Sapphire Highball

  • Siam Sapphire Coco

  • Siam Sapphire Cola
Simple, refreshing drinks that let the rum shine.

Creative minds behind the event

Adding to the event's excitement were some of Thailand’s most creative individuals. Yutthana Boonaom, a well-known figure in Thailand’s music and concert industry, was a special guest. He was joined by Anothai Niruttimetee, a prominent name in Thai street art.

At the event, there was an exploration for Resonance: Where Music Meets Art in a Glass, a creatively inspired drink by expert mixologist Jane Kaew-Yod that reflected the essence of Ruang Khao Siam Sapphire.

As the night continued, guests enjoyed the rich flavours of the rum, accompanied by lively conversation. The event made it clear that Ruang Khao Siam Sapphire is destined to be a staple in more bars, not just in Thailand, but around the world.

Ruang Khao Siam Sapphire is available in a 700ml bottle with 40% alcohol content at select department stores, including Tops, Lotus, Big C, and King Power branches. You can find out more details at the website ruangkhaospirits.com.
