Intelligence comes in many forms, and where you're from doesn't define how smart you are.

We all have different life experiences and ways of thinking, which can make us good at different things. It's not about comparing countries or backgrounds, but appreciating how everyone brings something unique to the table and knowing when to apply the right tool for the job. We're all capable of making mistakes, and that doesn't make anyone less than anyone else.

Average Thai's.... Maybe,

Educated Thai's.... Nope.

I disagree with you Charlie.

I think the main issue in Thailand is how they handle criticism when they do something wrong.

They act like petulant children, especially in a work setting...

I read the other day that the average IQ in Thailand is 89.

What do you think that says when it is extrapolated across the population as a whole?

I don't know about the average Thai person.

However, for sure, i am smarter than the average Farang.

And, over twice as smart as the average Farang in Thailand.

NOTE: By "smart", I am assuming that you are referring to IQ, which is measurable, and refers to mental age, relative to chronological age.

You have an IQ of 80? Well done.

I consider myself smarter than the average Thai in terms of IQ.

OTOH, in terms of EQ, they leave me in the dust.

81 countries and economies took part in PISA 2022 testing.

Thai results are relatively bad and deteriorating.

In most ways, yes, I'd say farang are smarter.

But Thais are generally more cunning, ruthless, and deceitful - all of which (in the correct context) can be "smart"

You can't get one over on a Thai easily; they know all the tricks of the trade; it's a way of life.

Farang are a lot more gullable and soft in the head making them dumb, sitting ducks.

Though, if you've been here long enough, you usually learn the law of the jungle.

Do you understand the concept of saving face?   It’s popular in Asia.

I cannot say, for sure, what the IQ of the average Farang in Thailand might be.

I just took a guess, based on my observations during over a decade here.

According to this list Thai IQ is higher than USA and UK, hard to believe when a lot need a calculator to add up 25 and 10

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/average-iq-by-country

Some fine print from the website above:  Data from International IQ Test (IIT) are based on data from 1,352,763 participants worldwide who took the same IQ test on the website in 2024.

The website providing the test:  https://international-iq-test.com/en/

Seems like the test is only given in the English language. What segment of the Thai population would be able to complete this test at all? I suspect this is why the result for Thailand is 102. Administer the same test in Thai to a cross-section of the general population and I suspect a different number would emerge.

This not statistically valid for sure.

Iam not Thai... I cannot answer that.

Text book engineer is a clue though.

A different number would also emerge if an IQ test in Thai was administered to foreigners.

IME experience the number of Thais who can speak good English far outweighs the number of  foreigners who can speak good Thai.

The trend is particularly noticeable in doctors and dentists. Who have to be reasonably smart to begin with anyway, due to their professions.

Yes, that's true, but a test of this nature needs to be administered in the test subjects' native language and given to a sample that is representative of the country's population as a whole in order to be a somewhat valid measure of a country's average IQ.

My point is that an online test administered in English will skew heavily towards a non-representative sample of Thais, such as doctors, dentists, academics and others who probably have higher IQs than the general population.

IQ "tests" given on any website are highly inaccurate, with probably ZERO validity.

Both my tests were not on a website.

I used to have a photographic memory, and could read at 900 wpm. I don't have the first anymore, and have slowed down on the second.

I don't know if that's an indicator of deteriorating IQ. At my age, I am not worrying about it.

Please post any one of my "pedantic" posts. You obviously know what pedantic means so go right ahead. BTW this isn't a pedantic post.

The SAT is, essentially, an iQ test, which is something that most people do know.

Care to post your SAT scores?

Or, you might not have taken them, depending on what school system you were in, and where you were intending to study at university.

The scores pre-1973 are not equivalent to those of later tests.

Also, the earlier SATs were open-ended...

Still, the SAT is an IQ test.
