I realise there is another topic about plane seats right now. But I am only interested in one thing, as someone who has never had a problem with fat people taking up part of my seat, I just want to know what you would do if you were on a flight for about 12 hour's and a very fat person was taking up a part of your seat especially if you were a 6ft tall person weighing around 78 Ks like me.

Airlines reserve the right to make the plus sized passenger pay for two seats.

I'm pretty sure that "are you a lard-arse" is not one of the questions when you book a flight.  How, then would they know that the individual is corpulently challenged and needs two seats?

It's in many airlines' policy that you agree to when you buy your ticket.  You agree that you can fit in your seat, and if not the airline can refuse to fly you or make you buy another seat at checkin.

They should do what Samoan Airlines used to do and charge passengers by their weight. Charge airfare by the pound/ kilo.

Get them on the scale and charge accordingly,.....like they do with excessive baggage.

Agree, but what does it help if you have such a person sitting next to you steeling your space and comfort?

Reminds me of a funny story. My girlfriend and i were waiting for a flight and we saw a really fat guy in the boarding area. We laughed and said pity the poor passenger sat next to him.  When we were boarding we made our way down the aisle and bu**er me the fat guy was sat on our row of three seats !!

Ive always maintained that a person AND his luggage in total is ALL werighed together at check-in and they are charged accordingly.

Just like carry-on luggage has fixed dimensions, so there should be for seat occupation, go over it, and you have to buy 2 seats or even 3 depending on the size.

The only person then affected is the person themselves.

Do we really want to give airlines a reason to charge more.

Let alone the rest of the travel industry.

So that was bad luck for your girlfriend then. :giggle:

Obese people are mostly addicts who do not respect themselves or others.  Abusing their bodies and raising medical costs for everyone else. Selfish and disgusting.

Tell them to take a bus or walk.

Transporting 2 seats worth of fat costs money. I don't see how people could object to this.

Decent non bigoted human beings object to it....

Someone may be large through no fault of their own - medical conditions etc...

Transporting 100kgs of trim muscle also costs more than a 40kg slim lady...  should the lady get a discount ???....
