Thailand's Coastline Threatened by Melting Iceberg, Expert Warns

Of course the melting of the massive polar ice caps and glaciers are going to have an effect on sea levels. We're already seeing much higher than normal storm swells and much more flooding than ever before, and it is just the beginning.

The sceptic will argue that anything we do could not possibly influence the climate, or effect the atmosphere. The planet is simply too large, and the population is too small to have any effect. Let the ships dump whatever they want into the ocean. The ocean is simply too large for anything we do to damage it.

This frees people to buy as many plastic bottles as they please, drive filthy diesel vehicles, and behave as if nothing effects anything.

It's not us. It is just a cycle. We are not responsible. So stop blaming us. We can be as unconscious as we want to be, and we will do as we damn please and nobody can do anything about it.

I know your being sarcastic.....But I think your not seeing the big picture....The very people who are forcing their New World Order nonsense green agenda on the world as a means of control....Are the very people who are making darn sure a real green energy revolution does not happen...

Take plastic bags...There have been biodegradable plastic bags for decades....So why are not all bags biodegradable? Because that would not help them with their green control agenda....

Same with energy....Zero point free energy would destroy their green control plans,so can never be allowed...There is much more to all of this but I think you get the idea.......Point being there are loads of people who know the current green energy agenda is nothing but a scam....

Oh dear!!

Bangkok is doomed it seems. Some might think that that is not such a bad thing. However, something could easily be done. Build a causeway from Sattahip to Cha-am (approximately). Drain it, north section, and save the capital. Making sure the new subs are south of the build naturally. And enlist an army of volunteers, ready, to save the sea-creatures. I would offer my help in an instant. Not just to save the star-fish and urchins, but to secure Bangkok's future.

It's only just over 100 km across at this point. Get to it I say. These governments are so short-sighted. Must look 69 years into the future.

You cant stop climate change. If it wants to freeze, it freezes. If it wants to melt, it melts. Geologic time scales and activities will always win.  When we develop the technology and balls to go to Mars, we will have our civilization on the road toward geo engineering.

In Thailand—where coastal sea levels are already rising at approximately 5.8 millimetres annually

So nothing to worry about in the rest of our lifetime.

At that rate of rise, they have decades to build seawalls.

Sooooo, we all know the climate is changing. Some of us think it's caused by humans. So, why is there nothing about reducing the human population being promoted? Less people = less pollution= less climate change.

I'll tell you why there isn't anything IMO. It a gigantic scam to make the 1% rich by buying stupid EVs and windmills. Obama bought a place on the coast- scam scam scam.

My wife and I moved from Thung Kru, Samuthprakarn 6 or 7 years ago. The tell-tale signs of future flooding were already clear back then.

And you think the flooding was caused by melting icebergs?

Nope, the flooding is caused by the continuing overbuilding and concreting of the surrounding areas

Put an ice cube into a glass of warm water and mark the level. Wait till the ice has melted and check the level. An iceberg is just a large ice cube.

Just tried what you said TBL. However! I noted than most of the ice sunk and only one floated. So I'm thinking; does the shape of the ice matter?

My wife says that if an ice cube is laden with sugar it will sink. Interesting.

Now I am really confused. Many years back, another Thai expert said that Thailand had nothing to fear from the melting icebergs simply because they were to far away from the Land of Smiles...😁

Unlike the regions facing icy cold Atlantic Ocean.

And if the sea water temperature is truly rising by the Global Warming,

it is even less likely that such ice blocks would reach this tropical region, not so far from the equator.

Whenever the semi-sciency catchphrase 'experts warn' is used in a fear-porn article or study (especially if the looming disaster will only materialize years in the future), put on your critical thinking glasses...

Truly the stupid Scare Tactics.

One of the most ridiculous ”scientific warnings"  ever heard in the past decades.

Omg. This doesn't fit the The-Polar-Icecaps-Are-MeltingTM narrative. The sea level in San Diego, CA is doing what?  Going down?

My goodness.  We can't have that.  It must be "bad data."

As global temperatures creep upwards, surpassing the Paris Agreement's 1.5 degrees Celsius target, concerns grow that A23a may fragment, grounding more icebergs into the Southern Ocean's key shipping lanes.

It would be a boon if it grounded in Thailand.  More tourism and a supply of crystal clean fresh water!

how on earth can one measure the sea level to such a degree of precision? 5.8mm     as if !    Its just a made up number

Well this is good....When the  icebergs get here we can capture the Polar Bears off the icebergs and put them in the Zoo with Moo Dang....

Polar bears from Antarctica. Right! I guess the zoos could also go to the Arctic to get some penguins.

There are no polar bears in Antartica. Nor could they even survive off the coast of Thailand as they primarily rely on seals for their diet and there are no seals near Thailand.

It's not about the actual ice sheet floating all the way to Bangkok, it's about it melting and raising the sea level.

The sea is not rising at all.....But they have to cough up some numbers to support their climate change fear agenda....

The following NASA article explains how melting icebergs do raise sea level, albeit only slightly.

Quote

A floating object, like an iceberg or other sea ice, displaces its own weight in water. But fresh water is less dense than salt water. So, when floating ice melts and becomes liquid, it takes up more volume than the seawater it displaced when it was ice, raising sea level. This has about 3% the effect of grounded ice-melt and raises sea level.

It was just a stupid joke that was trying to match how stupid the whole  article was...

Lots of popcicle sticks sticking out of the sand at the beach.
