How on earth can there be a definition of 'Islamophobia' that provides "protections against discrimination" while also "being compatible" with "the right to criticise, express dislike of, or insult religions and/or the beliefs and practices of adherents"?

 

The whole thing is a minefield. Government has no business trying to legislate against 'hurty words'. Want to call someone with a few extra pounds on them a "fat c**t"? Go ahead. Want to call a Muslim with facial hair "a bearded tw#t". Go ahead.

This death by 1,000 cuts is pure torture. Can't labour just get it over and done with and officially make the UK a muslim country and replace old school traditional law and justice with sharia.

Why would they do that?  Muslims only represent 6.5% of the UK population.

You could understand Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia or Pakistan having laws to protect Muslims but a predominantly Christian country like the UK having them is ludicrous, it's like turkeys voting for Christmas.

Islam is a ideology hiding behind a religion and if you let it it will take over.

It's not too hard to understand that if I sock a Sikh because based on the color of his/her skin I think s/he's Muslim, then s/he is by definition a victim of my islamophobia. I'm highly unlikely to be smashed in the face for being a Muslim 'cos I'm white. Coloured people are most at risk.

 

Fact is most Muslims in the UK (or anywhere else for that matter) are people of color. So the haters hide behind the 'Muslim is a religion' trope to deny their racism.

There is no racism in being anti muslim, it's a religion/ideology, not a race. People of all races are, unfortunately, muslims.

I suspect history is not your strong point, but mass migration in Britain started in earnest in the post-war years and without it the country would have never have fully recovered after World War 2.  Migration was actively encouraged by all parties to re-build the economy.

 

You might also be unfamiliar with Britain's role in colonising half the world!  As Britain decolonized in Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia, many people with British citizenship or ties to the UK migrated for better economic opportunities or to escape instability.  Maybe some disapproved but I'm sure they hadn't disapproved of the colonisation and the Empire.

 

Now admittedly the next wave in 2004 after EU expansion might not have been approved by all; and ended up with Brexit.  However, migration since Brexit has not declined much!
