Are your thai language skills up for such conversations?

If not it must be hard on your wife.

Kowjai nitnoi kap.

We only communicate in English, but this was the point I was trying to make: either one of you would have to be prolific in the other's language, plus the fact you would both need the same passion for the topic, otherwise a good conversation would be a non-starter.

Given there's also usually quite an age difference in farang/Thai relationships, having much in common could be another issue, meaning forum members could seek some kind of intellect here.

🤣🤣🤣 Made myself laugh with that last sentence 🤣🤣🤣

I also saw it as a calling.

Many people on here need help with their grammar because they are not as proficient in the English language … “ as what i am “ !

Shouldn't that read "as what i is"?

yes,   most on here are 70, 80+ .. even 90 ....   and some of their answers lack common sense,  so age does fog the mind.

Presumably, you have to include yourself in that characterisation.

You could have added a bonus option on your list for a our most-pedantic, argumentative, can-never-be-wrong Scouse member!

Scouse123 probably won't appreciate your (almost entirely inaccurate) comment about him that contravenes the rule banning discussion of other members!

Clearly this forum is ruled by old people with little to do in life + bored. Hence the forum died already years ago too.

Yet here you are still reading and posting

Well JK .........  the topic doesn't seem to have gathered much steam .  A few people making the usual posts of calling out the faults of others ( always good to know who the really smart and successful guys are , according to them )   haha

then there was :

"forum members could seek some kind of intellect here.

🤣🤣🤣 Made myself laugh with that last sentence 🤣🤣"

JK,  i also have been here 30+ years , and have been through the many phases of Farang comes to Thailand .    I check this forum out once in a while to read some of the recent experiences of (mostly new) members .    Interesting to hear the recent experiences re:  love lives, immigration, and of course the "this is what Thailand is all about"  from guys that can't even speak the language.

Anything of a political or health issue is really just a cock fight with competing Google link posts "proving"  one's position.   Critical thinking ?    huh ???

At my age I am concerned with doing the best i can to stay healthy .   Part of which involves avoiding getting too involved with others .  Though i used to enjoy human interactions........ I sort of accept that times have changed.

Following this forum from time to time is just a small part of daily life .  There are some more interesting substacks ( for me) .    For some here... this is their castle , and the competition is what they come for.

This is just a short follow-up to my previous topic (linked below). Based on all the responses everyone gave, I’ve put together a list of the 10 most common reasons people spend time on the forum (trolling, flaming and bickering not included).

To get a clearer picture of the most significant driving factors, I’ve now created a simple poll where you can quickly vote for the reasons that resonate with you the most without having to restate what you already posted in detail earlier.

I’m curious to see what really motivates others and whether the reasons people keep coming back are much different from my own. Personally, I’d say it’s mostly boredom and habit in my case. Occasionally, I find it entertaining and somewhat interesting to hear other people’s opinions, but if I could keep myself fully occupied with other activities, that would probably take care of the boredom factor and might help to break the habit. However, based on some of the responses to my previous post, it seems that my reasons are not necessarily the same for others.

I’d appreciate it if you could take a moment to quickly and kindly cast your vote (you can select multiple reasons in the poll if you want to). I'm interested to get a better sense of what drives other people’s interests and see what percentage of other people's reasons might align with my own. Thank you.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of farangs who are living in Thailand are actually members of AN. As someone living up country with no farangs near me (they are all dead or moved away)

Every time I need any advice or help AN is the only answer.

For all you lonely AN members. Here's the greatest ever country singer

George Jones.

Some people like forums just to be rude, agressive under the cover of their anonymity.

You mean the Keyboard Warriors. Pity about the rule that prohibits you from naming them.

I would think it's a pretty low number if you are referring to "active expat members". None of my long time expat friends come on here AFAIK. I think there are quite a few that may come for an occasional news article, question or answer, but that's probably about it. If I had to take a guess and, to finally answer your question, I would guess it's less than 5%.

No I would think it would be much more than that. Put it this way then, this is really only an opinion. How many expats who have lived in Thailand for at least 10 years are members of AN. I think maybe more than 60%.

Again, I don't really know, but all of my closest expat friends in Thailand have been here at least 20 years and none of them post on this site at all. They might read something if somebody sends them a link to a specific news article, but that's about the extent of their interaction on this site. Even if they're looking for some answers about changes to visa laws or something like that, they wouldn't post a question on this site. What they typically do is speak to other expat friends or do an online search for news articles, maybe go onto the Bangkok Post or The Examiner. And nowadays, many people are posting questions to AI models for answers rather than even searching using engines anymore. And why do they do this, because they don't really put any stock in crowdsourced information or opinions from people whom they don't know. Most of them also don't have a very positive opinion of other foreigners in Thailand in general so that may have a big something to do with it as well. I'm not trying to discredit what you're saying, but this is just based on the knowledge of my core group of long-term expat friends in Thailand.

Unfortunately for you my comment was not ironic in any way, I was not discussing Scouse123, I was expressing support for him in the light of your unwarranted attack and discussion of him.

You would think, wouldn't you--but almost every time I mention Asean Now, and, before AN, Thai Visa, none of the expats I know or meet has ever heard of it, or just vaguely know about it.  I'm still waiting to meet someone who actually reads it.

Me too but I avoid most of them

A few years ago I and some expats met every Saturday at the nearest swimming pool, but I don't remember even asking any of them if they were members of Thaivisa as it was then.
