Just curious if there are and new haunts that guys from 70's era in Bangkok frequent today.  Same time and era of Washington square... some fond memories.

Never went to Grace before it got taken over by the ME demographic, had a look at Washington Square- too boring. Patpong was too commercial and the night market was a mood killer trying to get around.

Cowboy was my first haunt, Tilac to be precise, before it went trendy, violet and not worth visiting. My first GF was from there, till she got too grumpy.

Nana was the cheese though, paradise on earth. It died long ago though, when they put the bars in the square and Hollywood Royale closed.

After that I just went to Pattaya, which was great till the city council went mad and imagined it as some sort of Riviera.

Seems that all the old haunts are not very good anymore.

People move on, and change.

The guys from back in those days are not the guys that they were in those days, so they’ll not go to the places that are like those places.

As I said, maybe on a different thread, I went back to old haunts, but took my bike- for the purpose of cycling- and it was disastrous.  I am not the man that I was when I went to those places before.  The cycling was grand, though.

You cycled in Bkk? You must like living dangerously!

If you got a takeaway did she sit on the crossbar?

Washington Square was cool. I started going to Thermae the year it moved to the Ruamchitt. Do you remember Woodstock up in the corner of Nana? Before the roof was put on?

Never stayed in Woodstock. Had a look in the door once.

The Grace used to be our terminus after spilling out of the original Thermae at 0500. The demographic you mention was already well established there (by late 1970's I think). We used to make a point of calling in for a bacon and something breakfast! Happy days.

Holy Buddha ... NO

Grace was the first hotel I ever stayed in TH, (1999) and the worst ever, worldwide.  Thankfully only one night, and off to Phuket the next day.   Patpong, again, one of the worst, if not, areas of Krung Thep, if not TH.   Scam central.

When I did finally hear about Thermae ... took the advice and avoided.  All 3 visited by lowest scrapings of the barrel. :w00t:

might make me sound weird, i was never into the bar or sex industry scene (tbh i never had trouble finding a gf), but back in the day i did like to wander the red light area just watching what was going on. the therme was an interesting place to sit, have a drink and just watch, i witnessed the slow change as the japanese guys took over, after that it ceased to be interesting.

Thermae 1 was especially seedy ,the clap guarenteed ,women under the table giving head for a 100 bath ,back door entrance was very squalid ,guys banging women at the back door in the dark up against the wall .
