Looking for a recommendation for an eye specialist in Chiang Mai (or Bangkok if necessary) to review problematic “floaters” in my left eye and separately an optician who can review my contact lens prescription.

Aged 61 and have had “eye floaters” in both eyes for several years but they have never bothered me.

About 7 months ago I noticed a sudden increase of “eye floaters” in my left eye and went straight to a private hospital in Chiang Mai to check for retinal detachment and was seen by an eye consultant. After dilating my pupil and conducting thorough checks I was diagnosed with vitreous degeneration with no treatment required.

During this appointment and my annual eye checks cataracts have never been mentioned to me.

I imported Vitro Cap N from the U.K. which contains micronutrients for changes of the vitreous body in the eyes, such as eye floaters and has had good results. After 6 months of taking Vitro Cap (as recommended) my “eye floaters” have become worse in my left eye and are now bothering me. It feels a bit like I have a windscreen wiper going across my eye.

On a separate note I have struggled with finding an optician who understands and can advise on my contact lens prescription in Thailand. I have seen eye consultants at private hospitals who don’t seem to understand the astigmatism in both of my eyes and the eye tests I have had to check my contact lens prescription have been very basic with no recommendations or changes to my prescription.

One eye consultant at a private hospital in Chiang Mai told me very few Thai people wear contact lenses due to the cost (which is understandable) and as a result it is not an area they are particularly knowledgeable about.

Before moving to Thailand my contact lens prescription had not changed in the U.K. for several years but having not had my eyes tested in the U.K. for 6 years, since I have not left Thailand, I am keen to get a thorough contact lens assessment.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Thank you.
