Outside areas covered in concrete.  Canals filled with trash.  The only place you'll see much nature is in a park that is maintained by some sort of authority.

Am I wrong?

WOW! Now all was wrong with Asians again. Good job of you on a Monday. Wonder what more slur you have to throw on the people in the continent you choose to live? Have you looked at national parks, zoo´s, city parks forestry and more. Do you also know how much of the Thais that are out in forest and fields picking eatable things?

No, you don´t have a clue, as you just se 2-3 trees, and all are bad again.

If some didn't care and set aside acreage for parks and wildlife, there wouldn't be an animal left in Thailand.

Simple economics.  The place I stayed in Galveston had about a dozen palm trees that needed trimming.  If we called in a tree guy, they'd scalp them back to a single frond or 2 and that would cost $50 per tree and last for about a year.  But they'd look horrible for 6 months or so.

I ended up buying a chainsaw on a long pole and trimmed them back every month to a decent looking configuration.  Had we hired the guys to do that, 12 trees x $50 x 12 months a year would have been $7,200 a year just to trim the palm trees.

The numbers may be different in Thailand, but the concept is the same.  And Thais are big fans of low taxes and saving money...

no this is really a thing. Of course it's not everyone but I see way too much concrete and dirt where it doesn't need to be. It's harder here to keep gardens though because they can explode in jungles very easily.

Ever see the houses where they concrete over everything and let it bake in the sun? Looks miserable to me but many people do this because it's easier to maintain.

A good point.  It's probably a lot harder to have a nice lawn in SEA.  They don't seem to have the same kind of grass we have in the West.  You do often see these kind of pot-plant gardens.

People eat in their car and then throw it out the window as they drive. The sides of the roads are covered with trash.

Then there's illegal dumping. People just stop off here and throw full bags of trash on the side of the of forest.

There's clearly a problem with littering here and people not respecting nature.

Assuming I'm some kind of invalid again, when I could run rings around you in any sport, contest or spelling bee. Older people aren't always weak little man, so try and get out more, and see for yourself, and don't lump everyone older than you into one category, because you'd be amazed just how much stronger some are. My sexy ex met max? If you're going to attempt English, use a better translator.

You literally have no idea what you are talking about.  What I wrote is true.  In SEA, you will hardly ever see a lawn in a garden.  They prefer to concrete things over.

As that shows that they like nature?  Ridiculous, as usual.

Nope, you don't have a clue.  You see a few parks, and assume it means Thais like nature.  Why do you think they are made?  Becasue they wouldn't be there otherwise.  Think about it.

You obviously live in one of the concrete jungles and have not been out of it to appreciate the vast countryside and the many leafy villages around.

So, because there are trees in the countryside it shows that SEA people really do like and preserve nature?  Have a think about that for a second.  🤦‍♂️

Oh, sorry, It was taken from a disco song and altered a little bit. when did I lump everyone for being older? When did I talk about strength? What I did was making same stupid reply as you did. So, there are no animals left in Thailand? Why does people get hurt by elephants and gaurs then? What about all the snakes that turn up in gardens all the time? What about all the roaming dogs and cats on the streets. Why are they not eradicated, if it is like you say? Niether of the examples comes from zoo´s or reservations where people take care. This was just a few examples. There are much more.

I read the whole of your comment.  It doesn't make sense.  There being more greenery in places where there is already naturally masses of greenery doesn't help your argument.  Nothing about my original comment suggests that I believe that people in SEA are going to be concreting the entire countryside.  And the fact that they don't doesn't mean they like nature or are trying to preserve it.

Like I said, read my whole comment. You've only commented on half of it.

I'm not sure why you'd suggest there being an arguement. There isn't one. Certainly not when you only acknowledge half of my comment.

Try reading past the word " countryside" in my original comment, and comment on that bit too.

I fully understand the context.

so many Thai people are living in stuffy little concrete boxes and think this is just fine. Why walk under a nice shady tree outside when you could be sitting on the floor in your condo? something like that...

So many people, Thai and otherwise, don't care where they sit, how uncomfortable it is, or what the view looks like, as long as they have a Wi-fi connection.

Ok, you seem to have a certain standard here. Why don´t you share what you think that the people in this country, where you are a guest, should do to meet your view of loving nature?

It a Thai thing. I could prune a tree like them with a chain saw or axe.  I planted a lemon tree, my wife has a gardener guy come in each month.

Chops the Sxxx out of the tree. I lose plot with my wife. She says we got to make it look good.🤣🤣🤣

I like and walk around reservoir everyday, all trash left on ground, they come to take photos of nature. Empty food containers, masks, bottle, cans and plastic cups.

When I walk now best sleep not to look a ground or I get pxxxed off.

All that a side Thailand is amazing.

They are worried about falling branches on cars/roofs often. Fair enough but they have a drastic over reaction and do these crazy hack jobs. You could prune the old/dead branches too but that require more work and monitoring the tree yearly so they do the laziest thing possible and just chop off it off in the middle every 5 years or so.

But that would require more work and regular maintenance. While I understand that the first thing also relates to the budget available for tree cutting the second is a concept unknown to most Thais

Check out that tree in another year..

Arborists in the west charge the same as dentist...and the less they do the more often they have to come back.

I have a tree in front of my  house that I cut back more severely than the one shown...In three months it will look that one...in a two years it will be 20  feet high and more than that wide...Huge canopy blocking the view again .It's a tree that he leaves can be used as sand paper can't recall the name right now.But when desperate you can use the little green fruit as an ingredient in nam prik.

Yes, I've seen our village landscape crews butchering the trees, too; although, not as low as your picture.  After the flood in 2011 we had a number of trees die around our house, so I replaced them with a deeper root type tree, which grows slower than the ones planted to spruce up the village when it was under development (they're a really beautiful tree if properly pruned).  They topped them one time and I  almost lost my mind.  Now I guard them, 🤣, as best I can to keep that crew away. (I also asked the village HOA manager to not trim them unless I was there).  It is sad that these landscaping crews aren't sent to some sort of training to properly care for the trees and the canopy.  (and, yes, there are professionals that are available for hire)

Thai people I know all say they love trees and nature, but as soon as they buy a property the first thing to go is all the trees. Someone once offered 75,000 Baht to cut down and take all the trees on our property. My wife was dead keen. She can't see the point of plants unless you can eat them, or their fruit, or they have beautiful flowers.

One of the sadder aspects of life in Thailand is the dislike/contempt Thais have for trees. When, supposedly, trimming a tree they appear to attack it with what seems to be venom and hate. Strange. This must be a relatively new phenomenon. Many will remember when Sathorn, in Bangkok, was an attractive tree-lined a avenue, only to wake up one morning and see that all the trees had been chopped down in the dead of night. Sacrilege.

Here was a once very lovely tree with a wide canopy which you could park under. Totally butchered into this abomination.

This isn't a one off incident, I see it over and over again. Just week where I live they did the same thing to some large trees which shaded a parking area and was a primary feature of a coffee shop. Climped up and chopped off the tops . Now the parking area is safe from falling branches but is roasting in the sun and really killed the charm. I was with a Thai men when they were doing this and he said Thai people don't like trees. I tend to agree.

Why do they do this? Such a pity.

Unfortunately pruning trees in Thailand consists of hacking them to pieces with a machete,  i have seen it dozens of times.    Not once have i seen a chain saw used and the trees pruned correctly.
