Amid swirling rumours of a potential coffee shortage, the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has reassured consumers that supply remains stable, and there is no imminent price hike for popular coffee brands. Witthayakorn Maneenate, the Director-General, addressed public concerns, confirming active market monitoring despite coffee not being a Ministry-controlled commodity.

Officials have been dispatched to inspect coffee stock and pricing nationwide, finding current supply adequate and prices unchanged. Recent discussions with wholesalers and retailers underline uninterrupted deliveries and stable sales volumes, debunking any notions of scarcity.

To further safeguard consumer interests, alternative quality brands have been enlisted, accompanied by promotions and discounts to ensure wide consumer choice in the competitive coffee market. Additionally, retailers are mandated to display prices transparently to aid consumer comparison, with penalties for non-compliance.

Consumers can report any unfair practices or pricing through the DIT's hotline, with robust inspections ensuring market integrity. Current reports show leading brands like Nestlé maintain a strong stock presence, enough for 30 to 45 days, with market leaders accounting for half the sales maintaining ample supply.

The DIT remains vigilant, coordinating efforts with local commerce departments and monitoring global price trends to protect both consumers and local producers in these trying economic times, reported The Thaiger.

Thais

Thais looking at local producers instead of the real world?

I buy coffee from Chiang Rai, a kilo at a time.

The last two orders have both seen an increase in price.

Witthayakorn Maneenate, the Director-General, needs to smoke less pot and look at the real world.

Same, I buy direct online from CM roasters, last purchase had increased 58 baht on 1 kg

Is this also a form of deception, everyone concludes that coffee is getting more expensive, and then we get some official trying to claim the opposite. not just in LOS, mind you, it's a trend in the world, loudly propagating the opposite, but I won't fall for that for a long time.

I cannot see why coffee prices should rise in Thailand ,except Starbucks,

as Thailand grows coffee , and imports from VietNam ,which the Trump

tariffs don't apply  ,it's just profiteering because price of coffee went up in

America

Not true... you can see in the supermarkets that the coffee prices went up already Mocona 337 THB for a pack and Nescafe red 287.. And the prices will go up more and more

Been buying Red Cup 400g forever. A month ago it suddenly jumped to  ~300 baht but bought it anyway (from Foodland).  But it's not the same, taste is similar but it's a fine powder, not very granular. Powdery instant coffee was an old technology so I doubt it's from the same source.

Lipton Yellow Tea disappeared a few months back. I bought some from Lazada that tasted like dried weeds.

So the government is covering up monkey business.

Yes, they are. The dispute between Nestle and their partners is making things spicy.

The supply chain is being cut and it's nothing to do with tariffs.

Amid swirling rumours of a potential coffee shortage,

What is not mentioned in this article is the reason for a potential coffee shortage - reference The Nation Facebook page:

Thai retailers fear shortages following legal injunction against Nestlé in ongoing dispute with former manufacturer. Retailers across Thailand are bracing for a potential shortage of Nescafé instant coffee after a court order temporarily halted its production, manufacturing, sales, and importation into the Kingdom.

No problem for me (when I lived in Thailand), living up in Lanna, there were plenty of tastier and better quality coffees sourced locally for example Chiang Dao and Doi Mae Salong. I never bought Nescafe's "dust".

The problem arises when everyone else who currently purchases Nestle products swaps over to what you used to buy.

Or maybe they simply switch to some kind of tea instead, regardless of what they change to - this is so big that it will affect supply chains.

With the greatest respect, I hope they do so. The local Thai growers and producers will benefit, not a large international corporation.

The problem is - there won't be enough - and that sounds like a great problem to have - but it's not.

There was a poor harvest in Columbia as I recall reading. Prices for the 'coffee companies' who are not Thai based will go up.

I purchase my coffee Thai grown Sole coffee, 500 grams from When Aroy on Shopee for 319 + shipping total THB 348.  He's on vacation so I'm going to order from another provider, who is offering it for less, just because I'm low and really need to order. I can't wait until after Songkran.

Lucky me. Villa stopped stocking Maxwell House, so I decided I could buy local. It's very good coffee. I bought my own grinder and grind the beans to work in my single cup drip coffee maker. One day, when the screen eventually tears, I'll probably go to a French press.
