Does living in Thailand drive you to drink?

Featured Replies

I was 14 years sober, but the demon drink got me.  That said, the 14 years started when I was born...

Me too ... not that I ever had a problem with alcohol.  I think the cycle of life is hitting my, and past 14 ish year, I've pretty much quit drinking alcohol.

For not particular reason, just prefer water over alcohol.   Will have a beer once in a couple months, and it is tasty, but no desire to have a 2nd.  Quite a reversal.

IMHO, no.  In fact, I quit drinking once I realized there was no more work for this old oilfield fart.  So many of my friends left and I already had a house up around Lam Luk Ka.  There's still plenty of opportunities, but I just don't choose to imbibe.  Sometimes the guys who live around me will have a dinner party and I'll have a few glasses of wine. That's it.

Very enviable position. Don't know where in Thailand you live, but can you really find that beautiful state of mind with the air quality as it is?

Yes. It is barely a factor. Too many other great aspects to focus on.

No, but surely your posts might, Bob.

I just stopped because it (alcohol) kept making me fall asleep in the pub. Not missed it.

I used to drink only 1 beer a year and mainly smoke weed, I then became a hard drinker in Thailand after living here a few years and getting heart broken + finding out the red lights. Never stopped, resulted in a few accidents as well over the course of years to come.

Weed got legal and I changed back, never looked back. Just some wines 1-2 times a week with dinners. Or some good craft beers. I guess it had more to do with covid too, to change entirely. Willing to pay more for quality nowadays too. Staying away from the money vampires.

Best part of all is that you actually save money, meet better people and have less drama.

So why don’t you marry him then?  Isn’t gay marriage legal in Thailand now?  Neither of you can get a girlfriend, so get a hobby with each other that keeps your hands busy and your mouths full. Then everyone else doesn’t have to be annoyed by you both.

You too subscribe to the "quantity over quality" style of posting. In reality you take the prize in that category, but bob/don's BS puts him right up there as well. What are you on 100+ posts a day for sure.

My posts are good. Yours are 0/10000

I got a blind date with Bob, Don, Colin and his other six alieses. I throw Harris in there, too to clean up the mess and cook my breakfast. Don’s next name will be Chicken Little.
