Cost of Birth government hospital

Featured Replies

How much money does it cost to have a baby in a government hospital.

Please quote both C section and natural births if possible.

Thanks

Free for Thai mothers, normally delivered by midwife. Extra 1,000bht for a private room for mom after the birth, but there has to be a relative in there with her 24/7.

I did have to pay 250bht for the 5x health tests they insisted all parents have, as I'm not Thai (syphilis, thalassemia, etc).

C they aren't a normal option in government hospitals unless a medical emergency, in which case free.

I was really impressed with the antenatal care, and the home visits after the birth

For a Thai, minimal, and not even worth worrying about.  Make sure she is registered in the govt health scheme where she is located, and plans on having the baby.

As above,  Thai citizens pay nothing (but should use the hospital where they are registered under SS or the Universal scheme).

If your questions is for a foreigner,  normal delivery through public channel will be maybe 5-10k, C-section maybe 20-30k.  Government hospitals also have semi-private channels, these will cost more. No C-section on demand through the public channel.

Complications of course would add to cost.

Here in China, I can hire a caretaker to stay with the patient because the hospitals (while the care is excellent) don't feed or provide other services like they do back in nanny land. They just provide the medical care.  Food, laundry etc. is up to the family.

Is that a thing in Thailand?  If so, how would someone find a caretaker like that?

I didn't need one at Bumrungrad when I had my bypass, but I've never been in a Thai gub'ment hospital.
