The 80s were the best decade to be alive. The best music, Alphaville, the best movies "Karate Kid"...the original not that Will Smith abomination. What a time it was to be alive.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, everyone wanted to move to California. Not so much anymore, but the 1970s and 1980s were interesting times to be alive.

I did report my finding to the front desk but I guess they saw it as a feature not a bug.

Didn't you try it out?

No. It was a lady doll with a very big mouth. I've always wondered if the last guest left it or it was one of those "off the menu" hotel amenities.

You do realise that's a really old man thing to say. Every single person alive thinks the decade they grew up in was "the best".

It wasn't.

And I did grow up in the 80s. Things are miles better now.

Well, I am 53. it's not like I'm 18.

But seriously, the 80s were the best decade. It was not just the great movies, Karate Kid, Back to the Future, Top Gun, Rambo, Ghostbusters, Coming to America, Rocky 3, or the great music, Can you imagine "I just called to say I love you" now? It's unthinkable. It really was a more innocent time. Uptown Girl, Imagine, songs that have stood the test of time.

No Me Too, no social media, no mobile phones. And me riding my stallion in the pine forest, slaying on the basketball court, on my first date with Nicola, making friends for life.

What a time it was. I would give anything to go back to the 1980s. Things are way worse now.

I grew up in the 80s and had a great time. People who grew up in the 70s also had a great time. Like wise the 60s, the 50s, the noughties etc.  Remember your parents saying things were better in their days? And you thought "don't be ridiculous, that's such an old person thing to say". No different.

It's just harping back to childhood, that's all - things were not better. Air quality was worse, racism was worse, pollution and litter were worse, transport was worse, cars were worse, crime was worse, travel was worse, corruption was worse, entertainment was worse, communication was worse, technology was rubbish or non existent. Arranging to meet your friend but running late or needing to change location? Sorry, just wait. And wait. And hope they turn up.  What's better about any of that?

I loved the 80s as it was my childhood and I loved my childhood. Don't see how it is better than today.

Ok.

They killed 1980s San Diego and 1980s San Francisco too.  I lived all those places in the 1980s.  It was a great time to be alive and living in California.  Now?  El Suckola.

Yah, the Samsung Galaxy has really elevated our happiness levels to hitherto unknown levels. Before I fall asleep at night I always say a little prayer for WhatsApp, without it I don't think I could have ever found true happiness.

To be fair, we are living through a golden age in pornography though, there is now content the likes of which would have made even the Marquis de Sade blush with embarassment. So it's not all bad.

Agree on the pornography, but using the Samsung Galaxy you can drive the length of Thailand with turn by turn guidance, live traffic updates and re-routing, I can listen to infinite amounts of music on the way, I can find the best rated restaurants to stop at, I can book my ferry to Samui when I get close, I can take photos on the journey, it's amazing.

And using Whatsapp I can keep in touch with my family in the UK daily, I can send them photos and videos, we can have video calls whenever we like for free.

Yep, technology has definitely made our lives worse, right? Let's roll back to before all that existed.

Oh listening to music on a Walkman! Another 1980s highlight. Like we could't listen to music then, come on. We could even make those cassettes that had meaning and give them to our girlfriend, trade them. Now, everyone is up there own backside on Spotify.

We could take photos too in the 1980s

Basically we haven't advanced at all. Lol.

Keep in touch with family? I don't want to keep in touch with family! I want to get away from family. When I saw my 84 year old father's wrinkled face on Whatsapp the other day my hairs stood on end!  My mother, in her day one of the most beautiful women in the world, is now so hideous, I can't even do video calls with her for my own sanity.

Social media has basically destroyed male female relationships. Women are now convinced they live in global abundance, as they get 10 DMs ever single day from guys. Indeed the good looking girls can now get an Italian footballer to text them, and fly them to Rome for a date. Before they were confined to a local dating pool, and had to rely on the local men. Now, dating has changed forever. To the benefit of women, and detriment of men.

Many women have developed narcissistic personality disorder due to the endless likes from men on social media. Even men they love, women will kick to the curb, thinking "I can do better".

10 men every single day is 300 men writing in one month. Just an example. But basically the phone has become an instrument of female domination in relationships. Women can do with the phone what they simply cannot do in real life, where they have to deal with real men. The phone has made cheating much, much easier, as has social media.

Loyalty from women will become a thing of the past. No woman, faced with perceived endless abundance and the ability to conduct covert affairs using a phone will stay loyal. Why do you think women stay on Insta and post videos of themselves dancing and licking their lips? It's not for you. You gave up chasing other girls, she's still in the sexual market place thanks to social media.

Even if you're Tom Brady, she will cheat.

The phone has given power back to working ladies though.

No more bar fines. No constant drinking. Dealing with slave driving bar owners. Her own schedule. Her own time. Her own choice.

This is a good thing.

However it has also turned many into working ladies who never would have gone that way before.

You're in Mexico with your girls and you open tinder. Bam 35 messages and 8 offers for money.  Why not pay for your trip and smash...... what happens in cancun....

Ah, got it now. You can't get attention from females so blame the phone.

Just the ramblings of a lonely bitter man.

The 80s were good, for sure, but so were the 50s, 60s, and 70s.  It's not like there are any bright lines you can draw.  For example, you can't really compare the first half of the 60s to the second half of the 60s.  And the second half of the 60s sort of morphed into the 70s and continued for a while.  The mid 70s started a newer era, I think, but by 81 Reagan won the election in a landslide and the world changed yet again.  I'd say the 80s continued through for first half of the 90s. By 2001, the world changed forever, and it's been downhill ever since.

If I had to pick a day to start a return trip and go forward, I'm not sure what date I'd pick.  1967?
