If you truly so much relish participating in OPEN FORUMS, then you will just LOVE China.

China has plenty of open forums.

It does and easily accessed.

You buy an illegal satellite dish and stick it on your building wall, then an illegal (copied) receiver with changeable cards, so everytime the authorities block a signal, you change the card.

The one year I was working there, non of these dishes I knew about were raided.

I'm sure you think your comment is relevant. I can recall similar comments directed at critics of the George W. Bush's Iraq War.

An interesting tactic, but let's not forget that China desperately needs to sell these products to the US, so it's really just a game of chicken.

It will be interesting to see how this affects things.  Can the US find another source, will it force them to innovate, or will China cave after a short period of time?

Does China desperately need to sell them as much as the USA desperately needs them. China is preparing steps to export them while keeping those rare earths from getting to the USA.

You obviously don’t realise that the majority of these products is already used domestically in China. China doesn’t need to sell any to the US (lots of other countries would happily buy them) but the US desperately needs them.

Guess who will cave? Rhetorical question, no need to answer.

Let's not get carried away. China has been trying to export its way out of its serious economic difficulties. One thing its policies haven't seriously encouraged is domestic consumption. Its economic policy is geared towards promoting manufacturing. And China produces way more than it can consume.

Let's do business with communists. What could possibly go wrong.

Seems to me that it’s those countries that aren’t doing business with the communists that are “going wrong”. Meanwhile, the Global Majority is coming along nicely.

I would imagine China needs to sell them more than the US needs to buy them.

When you offshore production of a product, you rely on another country for a product.  When you are the the country being offshored to, then you rely on that product being bought in order to generate income.

They might still be exporting them, but they obviously won't be exporting them in anywhere near the same numbers, which means a much lower income.  This is all while the current tariffs are still affecting them.  And we haven't even seen how Trump will respond.

Obviously, for most things, the US can likely find another source, whilst China cannot find a buyer to replace the US.

It's all really a question of how long the Chinese can afford to hold out.

I’m referring specifically to the rare earth minerals and products.

Having said that, it won’t be difficult for China to expand domestic consumption if it really wants to.
