Could be, I recall Songkran in 2000 there were heavy rains.    It also was hotter if I am remembering correctly.

Yep. we're in Korat, we've had a few hot days but nothing like past years, and most days have been pleasant and mild. We're now halfway through April, so lets hope it continues.

In my part of the country it used to be basically dry from November-May, bar a very few light afternoon showers in Feb/Mar, becoming a bit more frequent in April but never long-lived. Blue skies most of the time and very hot from March-June.

 

In recent years we have had some rain in all months of the year and particularly more from February to April, which has resulted in lower temps then and a markedly cooler "hot" season, with only a few really hot days, as well as reduced humidity. This year we've had more "early" rain than I can remember, although it has been trending this way for a few years. Last year, the "hot season here started late and was very short. The main effect of this seems to be lower precipitation through the main rainy (SW Monsoon)  season, which can be a problem for water storage and farmers.

 

So, the term "climate change" rather than "global warming" seems more usable here, where the average annual temperature is decreasing.

The usual tourist trope websites claim 'rainy season' in Thailand is May - October. In fact we, all know each region of the country can have variations - like the south (Phuket, Samui and even Koh Chang during December peak season where it can rain heavy at times in December).

 

But even Bangkok has seen rain and high humidity continuing on into 2nd week of December during last 5-10 years. It used to stop in first week of November 20 years ago - but not any more.

Agree that the use of  "climate change" rather than "global warming" is more appropriate and better describes what's going on.

I was in Pattaya from Feb to April and don't recall as much rain in previous Feb/Mar as there was this year.

Also, when I returned to UK, the temperatures were more akin to May or June than April.

 

Anyone who denies the existence of climate change is really not paying attention!

This is a cyclical weather pattern that will swing back next year not a long term trend.  Are you thinking this is the new normal for April weather?

Not as such - it may indeed (or may not) swing back next year, but you and I won't know until then.

The point I was making was that weather patterns around the globe are changing - much of that change is unpredictable.

suggest you check out some the reports on this forum over the recent past as they have been quoting the weather people about the hottest year and hotest month every month this year too.

When we evacuated to kanchanburi during the super flood in BKK (2011), during an afternoon summer storm, I noticed small hail and all the Thais laughed saying it was too hot for ice to fall, just like it never snows here.  I mangaged to snag some of the hail and showed them that it was ice but none of them had ever sen it before.  Now it is a daily occurrnce duiring the summer stor,m sn last month one news clip showed a home owner picking up a golfball size hairstone!  just saying that the weather is changing worldwide whether you can see it or not.

IMO It's caused partly by nature (consider the Ice Ages millennia ago) and partly by humans (consider the effects of such things as CFCs on the Ozone layer).

BUT...humans are exacerbating what nature does, thereby modifying the effects, so from that perspective I disagree with you.
