It has come to light that the young man is an avid Rugby fan. He went into a state of severe depression shortly after finding out that the Wales national Rugby team had just become the wooden spoon recipients in the Six Nations Rugby Championship 2025.

He thefore chose to withdraw from human interaction and emotionaly distance himself from his family and country.

Crikey, this is a very strange story.    These missing guys are usually found shacked up with a bird from Soi 6.

Just stop with your BS. He is an adult according to ages, and have no responsibilities to contact his family about what he is doing or where he is. Also, if relations are bad, then just more reason.

You seem to lack any moral understanding, such a sour person... I understand why you live in Thailand, a social outcast from your home country.

Too many assumptions are the mother of all F-ups! No, I am not an outcast in my home country, nor in Thailand. Socialize a lot, have many friends. It´s just you I can´t deal with.

Mate, in your case, I have nothing to deal with... You made an assumption. We only have your word on your social standing.

First, I am not your mate. Second, why are you still here discussion if you have nothing to deal with?

Mate, you memory is failing, my comment was in reply to yours. Mate, you are the only one who does not understand... Mate, get a grip of yourself.

Where does it say he has no money, for all we know at 26 he's got a trust fund, or had a huge inheritance.

Not sure..Look the shared guest house room where he sleep 🤔

Agreed,

There, again, he just might be a self-important, entitled, spoilt <deleted>.

Possible too, but he's an adult and would appear to be here legally, I just find on this forum that everyone either assumes people in their 20s are broke or have no right to be in Thailand. I think it's more they are relating to their own circumstances in their 20s and have no idea how different the world is and can't comprehend worldwide remote working.

Looking at his accommodation and appearance, he didn't appear to be heavily involved in remote working.

He looked more like a dishevelled man who didn't know what he wanted.

As you say, he's an adult so his family now can just like it or lump it, they know he is not in harm's way, end of.

You could be correct, or he could be just going somewhere frugally, who knows, who really should care. As long as he isn't doing the begpacker <deleted> then it's fine.

I understand him, I did that around that age. But unlike him, I was responsible enough to let at least my sister know I'd disappear for a while. It takes the purpose out of disappearing in peace if I would get people crazy worried looking for me. Unless that's his purpose or some hidden agenda there.🤷🏻‍♀️

He might not want to go home, but at his age he will have little or no savings, and no job.

His stay in Thailand will be difficult without the correct visa or income.

I was 20 when I made 3 visits to Thailand in 1985/86, and I had to work lots of overtime to fund those trips.

When I started working in the oil industry in 1997 I was able to subsequently spend 20 year living there.

There have been at least 5 of these recently.  20-50yr olds gone 'missing', all turned up and it was just over reactive family. We used to go weeks without calling home, that was the whole point of going back packing.

Nah, the whole point of backpacking was to travel and see the world ! And meet people !. And, yes , we couldn't call home every day for several reasons. The international calls were expensive, and you couldn't always find a place where you could call internationally. But we have great memories from backpacking. The best time of my life!

I remember the yellow intl phone boxes in Bangkok. I think a 500 Baht card got me 2 shortish calls home to the UK.

With free internet, there are not many excuses these days not to let people know you are safe and want to be alone.

We have Messenger and WhatsApp, not to mention just a couple.

Far better to keep infrequent contact with a single person known to relatives rather than disappear.

Families can oft go to absurd and intrusive lengths unneeded and unnecessary alerting police and embassies when the person in question simply wants to be left alone, and give space to heal away from the stress of family

Superb way for himself and his family to make money off the British newspaper for his story (and the continuation on his return).

I'm sure he will already have use from the Go Fund Me.
