Harvard’s Response to the Trump Administration

Featured Replies

I will post links to the hard copy original government letter and the Harvard response letter but just to start  a few sentences from each:

From the government:

Harvard has in recent years failed to live up to both the intellectual and civil rights conditions that
justify federal investment. But we appreciate your expression of commitment to repairing those
failures and welcome your collaboration in restoring the University to its promise. We therefore
present the below provisions as the basis for an agreement in principle that will maintain Harvard's
financial relationship with the federal government.

From Harvard's response:

Neither Harvard nor any other private university can allow itself to be taken over by the
federal government. Accordingly, Harvard will not accept the government's terms as an agreement
in principle.
Harvard remains open to dialogue about what the university has done, and is planning to
do, to improve the experience of every member of its community. But Harvard is not prepared to
agree to demands that go beyond the lawful authority of this or any administration.

Trump & his moronic acolytes pissed they could not graduate from Harvard or even get admitted.

They really are doing authoritarian crackdowns on courts, institutions and DOJ not dissimilar to 1930s Germany

I really hope all the universities combine & push back against this tyranny

I will let others comment on the claim by the government that the letter signed by 3 government counselors as linked above was sent out byh mistake.

Further, seems to me that trump is aiming to gain total control of everything in the US.

Up to US citizens to fight like hell to restrict what he can control.

Awesome.

Harvard needs to stop biting the hand that feeds it.

Or become akin to Rochdale Polytechnic.

Headline today from NY Times:

Trump Officials Blame Mistake for Setting Off Confrontation With Harvard
An official on the administration’s antisemitism task force told the university that a letter of demands had been sent without authorization.

Awesome. More Keystone Kops from the admin folks.
