A shocking incident unfolded in Chiang Mai province during a municipal election campaign when a village headman lost his temper, drove his car into a campaign assistant and then attacked members of the election team with a wooden stick. The incident occurred on the evening of 19 April, in the Tha Duea community of San Phi Suea subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai. The headman of Village 6, Tha Duea, reportedly rammed his vehicle into a campaign assistant working for Mr. Pawit Boonchala, a candidate for mayor of the San Phi Suea Subdistrict Municipality. Following the crash, the headman allegedly exited the vehicle wielding a wooden stick, shouting obscenities, and physically attacking members of the campaign team, including a candidate for the municipal council, as well as local residents. Several individuals were injured and had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Mr. Pawit recounted the incident, stating that his team was canvassing in the village around 17:45, coinciding with a traditional water-pouring ceremony for elders taking place at the headman’s residence. He claimed they heard the headman broadcasting through the village PA system, ordering them to stop their campaign activities. Despite this, Mr. Pawit maintained that his team was conducting their campaign lawfully and without causing any disturbance. Moments later, the headman allegedly drove his vehicle directly into one of the team members and followed up the assault by striking people with a stick. Mr. Pawit stressed that there had been no prior conflict between him and the headman. Video footage captured during the incident showed residents attempting to intervene and calm the situation, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The campaign team refrained from retaliating at any point. The injured individuals were taken to hospital, and a formal police complaint has been filed against the headman. Local residents speculate that the violent outburst may have been politically motivated, although investigations are ongoing. This incident has stirred widespread concern among voters and raised questions about political tensions in the lead-up to local elections. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Khaosod. -- 2025-04-21 1 1 7

CMFarang Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Live in same area, the NOISE and disturbance has been going on for weeks. Signs blocking line of vision at intersections causing driving hazards and, loud speakers playing distorted music every couple of hours through the day . Enough. I can understand why he did this. A bit extreme, but I hope it sends a message to campaigners . QUIETLY PLEASE . 1 1
spidermike007 Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Just a simple kick to his knee would resolve his hissy fit. When you can't walk it changes the game. 1 1
impulse Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Sounds like what the US lefties are doing to TESLAs. On an aside, I like his shirt. 1 2

jesimps Posted April 22 Posted April 22 "Hold me back, hold me back..." Have a certain amount of sympathy with him though, persistent loud noise can drive any of us over the edge at some point. Many times I've been close to doing what this guy did. 1
cowellandrew Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Great example for the youth's just look at how the village head man behaves! ☻☻🙈

There is since yesterday a music party at Robinson here.. And Sunday at 23.15 they started to do a sound check soo loudly.. I don't understan it. Yesterday I went to complain at Robinson already as I live surely 1 km away from the mall but the bass is still drumming so loudly that I can hear it inside my house with windows and doors closed... They looked at me as I was an alien and told that they would inform the manager.. But yesterday evening they made the same loud sound and today and probably tomorrow the last day it will be the same... Sponsored by Pepsi. I don't understand after a week holiday , on Monday start a 3 day music festival,... They don't think that people have to work? and they can't lower the sounds a bit so that they also can have fun and not the whole province has to listen to their bass and stupid no-able to sing artists. Oh I forgot brains of an ostrich here
MalcolmB Posted April 22 Posted April 22 If this guy wins then this will go on for years. Mayors and Pooyai Baans often have to attend the same local events. Grab the popcorn.
