Has anyone noticed how much coffee has increased in price at 7-11 over the past 6 months.   

A thai brand 45g pack of freeze dried coffee was 44 baht just 4 months ago,  the same packet is now 58 baht.  That's a wopping 32%  increase .....    and many other items are similar.   

 

Is 7-11 pricing regulated  ?

who sets the price increase on items ....  is it CP  ?   the factory  ?   or the farmer  ?

 

have you noticed a sharp increase in stuff you buy  ?     I realize Makro & Tesco and others have increased slightly, which is indicative of inflation,   but I'm wondering why some prices have really escalated. 

Greed is good. 

I've noticed about a 15% increase on most items since inflation reared its ugly head in late 2021.  Not really that bad and amounts to about 3.5% compounded annually.  Went to the USA and it seemed much more of an issue.  Restaurants here are a little more expensive but in the USA it ridiculously expensive.  In the end my spending hasn't gone up at all and am under budget 9 out of 10 months.

Did you not notice the court ruling taking Nestle out of the shops for a month, hence causing scarcity and opportunity for other coffee brands?

A court order in Thailand has temporarily halted Nestlé's ability to produce, sell, or import Nescafé instant coffee in the country. This injunction, issued by the Minburi Civil Court on April 3rd, 2025, has led to a potential shortage of Nescafé products in Thai shops. The court's decision is a result of a legal dispute between Nestlé and the Mahagitsiri family, who were previously partners in a joint venture that produced Nescafé in Thailand. 

My first suggestion would be to stop shopping at 7-Eleven, there are far better places to get decent values on food products. 

 

I definitely see some inflation in Thailand, however I'm back in the US right now and despite what the fraudulent officials in the government keep telling us inflation is at about 22%. Every single time I come back here every 6 months, every single one of my staples is 10 to 15% higher, so don't talk to me about a 3.1% official inflation rate, that is pure nonsense and total fiction. I don't eat magnesium ore.

It's good to hear there's a poster here who recognizes that government statistics are nothing more than fiction. 

It's not just inflation, though, although that's what consumers notice.

 

Imagine the damage that has been done, over the years, to retirees with Social Security and pension payments that are indexed to the official inflation rate. For example, the government might say that the CPI rose 3.1% last year and that's the increase you get.  And yet that amounts to a loss in purchasing power over the year, considering the real inflation rate.  Year after year of the same nonsense and pretty soon retirees in America have a real problem.  

 

I retired in 2006 and I'm living in Thailand, so I'm not as much affected as I could be. I also have other sources of income, in any event.  Still, not everyone is so lucky.  

 

Had I stayed in the USA, I'd be much worse off today than I was in 2006, in terms of just my pension and Social Security.   I should probably go back and do a comparison of USA costs. Then vs. now.   

 

I was in Thailand as of late 2006, but I don't really remember what things cost back then.  I know Baht Buses were only 10 baht, like now.  Street food was 29 baht in places. Now it's 50.   Rents were more or less the same, although it's hard to tell in a tourist area.  Over the years, I've been back and forth.

So many food items..........and then you mention just one, which has increased because the price of coffee beans has increased massively on the world market

That court ruling was already reversed 2 weeks ago

Our two nearest 7/11 stores have higher prices than at least one larger store I visit. I wasn't aware that the franchisees could do that, but 7/11 corporate purchased a corner block on the main road 300m away, added a laundromat, chemist, 7/11 extended version, and plenty of parking, just like back home. The franchisees are doomed sadly, 7/11 corporate here is somewhat mercenary.

 

During the last 12 months we've noticed small increases every month, across a range of products.

I don't look at price tags (seriously who does ?) so no, Ive not noticed an increase.

I wonder if this has something to do with it?

We have a Cafe' and food ingredient cost are up about 20% in the last year and still going up. Eggs were 104 last week, on Monday they were 106, yesterday 116 and 120 today

About 6 weeks ago coconut milk disappeared from the shelves of all the supermarkets around where I live in Phuket for around 2 weeks , when they reappeared the price (1,000ml) had increased from 61baht to 76baht or 25% increase.

When I am out shopping I am always looking for deals especially in Makro or Big C or Lotus.s 

Found packs of  chicken potato powder in Lotus,s.  29 baht. 

In 7/11.  35baht  happy 😊

No worries. I don't have any health insurance!

coffee, cooking oil, sugar, bottled sauces,  carnation milk, soaps,  these are just some that have increased somewhat over the last 3-6 months.  Many small pack biscuit's have been removed from most 7-11's, so it's buy the dearer one or don't get.

I'm trying to wean myself off coffee and replace it with cacao.

I just bought a 200g bag of Cacao powder for 150 Baht. It's a local Thai product. 

It's good value. 

The imported Cacao powders are 400 Baht.

Looks like you skipped nutrition classes.

Believe it or not I have kept a record of grocery spending for two people since 2001 It records monthly spending at Makro, Lotus, Big C, Go Wholesale, Tops and Foodland
