Oh, you have read the deal? Tell us whats in it.

You havent, you cant, you wont

There you are quoting me out of context.

I’ll tell you what it is, a limited deal that can be withdrawn at the whim of Trump.

What it is not is comprehensive, and it is not a Trade Agreement, which would require approval by Congress and could not be withdrawn at whim by Trump.

It’s fantastic work by Starmer to salvage some positive gains from Trump’s attack on the UK economy without selling out UK farming and the NHS.

Giving the man-child a few crumbs to offer his supporters, both foreign and domestic, while de-escalating Trump’s aggression against the UK economy.

So yes, good work by Starmer, his pragmatism is exactly the right approach.

Seems to me the way to deal with trump is give him a little bit to crow about but make sure you take care of your needs first.this is typical trump play book create a problem create chaos then claim you fixed it.anyway when it all comes out in the wash I hope it alleviates some of the harm….

Yes they are.

And Trade Deals are not FTA’s

There will be no FTA between the U.S. and UK while Trump is in office, his vandalism of the FDA alone negates any hope of US foods meeting UK standards.

The man’s an idiot.

I suggest we don’t get into personal comparisons.

We disagree on matters but I don’t want to humiliate you.

Excellent news.

Not possible without Brexit. It's great to be free of that corrupt federalist project and to be able to make our own deals with the US (oh and India a few days ago).

Then why did you say this is "a salient fact" in response to me commenting that this is BBC negative spin?

"it falls short of a full-scale free trade agreement

Again what do FTAs have to do with it?

We have a trade SURPLUS with the U.K.

The U.K. has an effective overall tariff rate of 1%.

The U.K. has to pay 10% tariff rate on their exports to the U.S.

The U.K. has to buy $10 Billion worth of aircraft (Boeing), supplied with tariff-exempt RR engines (presumably).

Trade agreements need to be ratified by Congress.

So much winning. At best, this was a draw.

You'll never hear anything positive about Trump from the radical progressive woke left. They only have hate and negativity in them.

Because it is a salient fact that this isn’t an FTA.

An FTA with the U.S. was a cornerstone of the Brexit promises.

From your own link.

“The final details are being written up in the coming weeks,” U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters from the Oval Office. Both Washington and London published initial details Thursday.

During Britain’s membership of the EU the U.S. tariff on U.K. manufactured cars was 2.5%.

Under this limited Trade Deal, that tariff is now 10%.

I guess you take what you can get, or at least the crumbs you are offered.

Thank once again for demonstrating something that still cannot be mentioned on this forum. An excellent example. Let me tell you one thing he's dismantled. The Biden/Harris open borders. Are you saying this is a bad thing?

Nice try 😄

What's the EU's tariff on cars exported to the US today?

Indeed so why mention it in the article other than to use it as a negative spin?

Likewise we’ll never hear anything negative from Trump’s supporters, both foreign and domestic, no matter what he does.

Using Trumps own logic, the US has been ripping the UK off for years, given that there is a surplus.

The 10% tariff of course is paid by the importer not by the UK exporter, so US customers are eventually 10% worse off, prices being 10% higher may result in less exports to the US, so in theory the UK trade surplus could grow especially if the UK buys more US goods under this agreement (beef or chicken anyone?), so the US will be ripping the UK off more ?

sounds like a lose / lose.

I have no idea.

I’ll check when a U.S. / EU trade deal is the topic of discussion.
