Popular Post simon43 Posted 21 hours ago Popular Post Posted 21 hours ago I must be one of the longest members on this forum (member #174). I remember 22 years ago when the forum was a hive of useful and interesting posts. Today, it is mostly a cesspit of trolls and AI posts, with the occasional useful/interesting post. But TBH, that's simply a reflection of 'progress' (or lack of it). I think many other forums also suffer from these problems. IMHO, social media has done a lot of damage to society, (and I speak as someone who was a pioneer in developing SMS social media channels and AI chat). Not forgetting that I am now 22 years older and certainly my own views have changed over the years (old man shouting at clouds etc!). 2 4

It had some lean years under Dan Cheeseman but has bounced back and improved by leaps and bounds since the Thaiger took over. I have no figures but it seems to have a lot more members now and more news and information relevant to the expat community. What is you favorite feature since the Thaiger takeover? One suggestion I have would be to allow native languages to be allowed on the Philippines, Indo, Singapore, Maylasia etc like we have the popular Thai Language Forum. Sarcasm is best left to experienced comedians. 2

And some of us remember when you were on patrol keeping tourists safe. The local criminal element scurried away as you marched by, clearing Bangla of the hooligans and touts who lay in wait of the unsuspecting farangs. And many a foreign lout awash in the devil's juice was set straight by your presence. A proper beacon of English propriety, you were. Sometimes your patrol took you into the darkest recesses of human debauchery in the "Paradise" strip. Never judging the depraved hedonists who filled the area, you chose instead to assist all with your resolve, even when you were approached with urgent requests for directions to the nearest toilet. One night I saw you help a self described starving Australian woman when you told her where to find the Burger King. It was a remarkable intervention, and you pointed with authoritative gusto. Your self discipline must have been great as she was a vision of beauty with her rose tattoo on her near exposed bosom, and butterfly tattoo on her ham hock of a thigh. I doubt that many an Englishman could have resisted the exotic beguiling beauty of the maiden of Oz. So many people have come and gone. And so many have vaporized as their money ran out and they were forced to return to the UK or Europe, blaming everyone else for their poor financial planning and poor decisions in life. Yes it has been an exciting time and you were a part of it. You made it happen!!! 1 1 2 1

How about offering some useful information, such as: 1. What or who is Thaiger? 2. When did they take over? Some people might like to know. I don't spend a lot of time on here these days, but have been here for nearly 20 years, and it's very quiet compared to how it used to be, but I can't put a date on the decline; it was many years ago. They started doing so poorly that they had to discontinue the Thaivisa app. That was a major sign of decline. Moderation was heavy in the old days. I believe Internet forums are just going through a general decline, and one day in the not-so-distant future, apps will take over completely.

Decline? If it was flooded with too many topics, I wouldn't have time to read most of them. It's busy enough and it already consumes a fair amount of time as it is to read the current thread volume. People are nostalgic ... everything seemed to be better in the old days. The beer was colder, the bar girls weren't as fat.

I lived by the airport and patrolled in the terminal building, helping tourists find the Burger King.... Very rarely did I venture down to Patong, and that was to install a 'booster' system for the VHF licenced radios used by myself and the Thai volunteers. 1

Get rid of all emojis so anyone with anything to reply must do it manually, and show who they are. But put a minimum number of words, say 10, to discourage those who give one-word replies like some frequently do. Hello Orville1 555 2
