Thailand Laptop in the UK.

Does anyone have or did have a laptop bought in Thailand and using or used it in the UK?

I am at present in the UK and cannot get a # on my laptop to sign in for  my password to get my Wi Fi.

On the 3 button there is a # but I cannot get it for the password. Anyone help?

If all you did was carry the laptop with you to the UK.... that isn't what has caused your problem.  I suggest you use Windows help to find out which keyboard definition you are using.  Hopefully you can to that without needing WiFi.  You can probably use your phone with WiFi and search google for help with Windows keyboard definition.

With my Asus bought in Thailand and with a Thai keyboard, but set to US keyboard, Shift and number key 3 gives me the #

I use ALT 0163

 

 

To get the pound sign (£) on a Thai keyboard, you can use the Alt key code or the number pad. Here's how:

I don't want the Pound sign, I want the Hash sign.

I bought my Asus in Thailand a few months ago and it also has Thailand letters on it.

If I am reading this correctly, he can't log in to his browser, because his password contains an # character.

Did you even read the (short) OP? His wifi password is what he is having problems with.

If you are getting a £ sign when you press Shift + 3, it means that you are using a UK keyboard layout on a US/Thai keyboard.

A U.K. physical keyboard has one more key than a physical US keyboard, as you have just found out. With a U,K keyboard there is a dedicated # key. You'll need to switch back to the US keyboard layout to select Shift + 3.

Then out of nowhere a # character appears

 

Now here's the kicker - it only works with the numeric keypad at the right side of the keyboard - not the numbers across the top of the keyboard.....which is strange but that's the deal!

 

So if you have a laptop that DOESN'T have the keypad on the right side there is another way

Method 1 works for me and I see the # above the 3, whether this works for you or not is another thing but give it a go.

There is another way as well - you can open notepad, go to google.co.uk and lookup 'hash character' - copy and paste it into the notepad and then construct the full password and copy / paste the whole thing into the wifi login....

One of or a combination of the above should get you going.....

What do you mean by #? The hash tag is widely available on the Internet.

This is an example of how Thailand is superior to the UK. Here you would just take the device to Tuk Com and someone would do it for you for a 100 baht.

How did you access it before and can you remember what settings you may have changed before you last closed it down? 

Are you even sure that the password contains # and not something else using that key?

He is in the U.K. with a laptop he recently bought in Thailand, to access the wi-fi via password ( Hotel ? ) he needs to type a # and is struggling.

 

I recall if you use U.K. keyboard setup on a laptop designed for a us keyboard layout ( or vice versa ) then some symbols change places, i specifically remember the @ symbol moving around but don’t recall about the #.

WTF - your keyboard set-up doesn't change when you go to a different country, if you have a Thai keyboard, as I do on my laptop, if I'm in the UK it's still a Thai keyboard! Just enter the password as you did in Thailand, nothing has changed unless you've damaged your keyboard during travel.

 

If your keyboard is damaged and shift+3 no longer gives you a hash, use the magnifying glass and search for Character Map and open, select the hash sign and copy.

I have an ASUS laptop bought in the US , it also has the #above the number 3 symbol.

 

Presumably you have the Windows Display Language set to English ( United Kingdom), in this format pressing shift + 3 will give you a £ symbol.

 

You need to change to English ( United States ) in Windows Display Language for the symbols to react with your keyboard layout.

 

In the “ Type here to search “ box type “ keyboard “ and then open:

 

 

Your settings need to be like this:

 

 

then typing shift + 3 will give you a #.

Presumably he hasn’t had to type a # before ( new laptop ).

 

If he tells us what he gets when typing shift + 3 then we will understand more, my money is on he gets a £ as has set his keyboard/Windows Display Language to English ( United Kingdom ) and the keyboard layout on his laptop is classed as United States.
