Stop looking for excuses , the rat was posted as an attack on Jews .

The video content was an attack on Zionism and rats were used to depict Jews .

Quite possible using rats to depict Jews could well be classed as Antisemitism

I think you're looking for excuses to discredit this very sober and rational speech against Zionism.

Yes, the speech was an attack on Zionism, but not on jews. The speaker was very careful about that.

There is no proof whatsoever that this cute rat cartoon was meant to depict jews. It was under the word "zionism" so at most it was used to depict Zionists, not jews as a whole.

In no way was this video antisemitic, yet Lineker still  had to apologise and take it down professing he's not an antisemite. The modus operandi of the Zionist apologists is clear to see for all and has been the same for years. It's amazing it still works.

For the third time , the content of the speech is irrelevant .

That is a typical Palestinians way of operating .

Do something controversial, offensive and attention seeking .

Get peoples attention and then change the subject to their cause .

*Lets ignore the rat and talk about the Palestinian cause *

I refuse to get drawn  into your trap

Adolf Hitler wanted to wipe out Jews and he used cartoons of rats to depict Jews .

A group wants to wipe out the Jewish Country and they use rats to depict Jews as well .

Can you see the connection ?

Where is the video? Then we can decide if anything has been misrepresented. Free speech being attacked again. We are being told what we should think. No thank you.

You have already pleaded ignorance of the rat picture significance, a well known trope of antisemitism and deployed extensively by the Nazis in their murderous propaganda.Any educated person knows this.

So you have ruled yourself out of the discussion - at least as a serious contributor.

No he didn't, it was Julius Streicher in Der Stürmer who used the rat cartoon. Streicher was derided even by Nazis as an extremists, Görign for instance hated him and forbade his staff to read the Stürmer.

In no way can that cute rat cartoon be equated to the depictions Streicher used in his antisemitic  cartoons. They are very different.

Here's a screenshot of the video Lineker reposted, complete with rat emoji.

Screenshot2025-05-15012405.jpg.f5d6a05a43f9bc0c7c625ebb444652a6.jpg

The rat emoji  was apparently added when the video posted on an Instagram account named Palestine Lobby.  I couldn't find any information as to whether an individual or group is behind it.   Most of the posts on that account are standard pro-Palestine stuff, but there are some heavy duty antisemitic posts, including one which claims Israel controls the U.S. government.  Read the details in the link below:

Gary Lineker shares anti-Zionist lecture from account that claimed Israel ‘controls the US government’
A copy of the video has since been flagged in relation to X’s ‘hateful conduct’ regulations

Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker has come under fire after sharing a video of a lecture condemning Zionism from an account which has previously claimed that Israel “controls the US government”.

The  woman in the vid is Dianna Buttu, a Canadian lawyer with Palestinian parents.  She was formerly a spokesperson for the Palestinian Liberation Organization and took part in negotiations with Israel on Palestine's behalf.  She now works as a "political analyst" for a Palestinian advocacy group.  She has refused to condemn Hamas for the Oct. 7 attacks.

Some AN BMs need to better understand the role of the rat image in Nazi propaganda.  Jews were compared to rats in graphics and print to convey the idea Jews should be exterminated.

Untitled-1.jpg.b94841330ede63ae169135ba9ecb5176.jpg

The graphic from Der Stürmer shows a Nazi party member using poison gas to kill Jewish rats which live in the "German oak."  The dead rats don't look terrible, but are close in form to the cartoon rat in the vid Lineker posted.  The middle cartoon came from an Austrian newspaper in 1939 and shows Jewish rats being swept out of Germany but refused admission by democratic countries.  The third illustration is a poster used by Nazis to persuade Ukrainians to hate and betray their Jewish neighbors.

Moreover,  the infamous Nazi propaganda film Der ewige Jude [The Eternal Jew],  depicted  Jews as disease-bearing rats. In the film's final scene, Hitler spoke of  "the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe.”  https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/der-ewige-jude

It's far-fetched to think whoever added the rat to the Palestine Lobby post wouldn't have understood the symbolism.  The image of Jews as rats is still widely used in Arab and Muslim countries,

OK, I will amend my post

The Nazi party headed by Adolf Hitler wanted to wipe out Jews and Nazi party leader and  member Julius Streicher  used cartoons of rats to depict Jews in his Anti sematic newspaper .

(Goring hated Streicher because he published stories about Goring being impotent and his daughter was artificially  inseminated )

That's perfectly accurate.

Except that Goering hated Streicher before the latter published stories  about Goering being impotent, in fact Streicher published those stories because he was aware that Goering despised him and forbade his staff from reading the Stuermer.

It will be interesting to see if scandal finally sticks to Lineker or he continues as the "teflon" sportscaster, able to shrug off yet another stupid post or utterance.  The rawest and youngest BBC intern could be expected to know you can't portray  Jews or Zionists as rats without causing a huge negative reaction.  For the BBC's highest paid presenter not to realize rats have been long used by antisemites as a comparison to Jews speaks to the depth  of his ignorance or hatred of Jews.  In either case, it makes him unsuitable as a presenter  with a huge following.

If he had reposted a comment on Kemi Badenoch that included an emoji of a white hood or noose, would he be allowed to plead ignorance or failing to notice it?

It least he was forced to withdraw the repost and make a humiliating apology for it.

He wasn't forced to delete it, he deleted it of his own volition when the inference was pointed out to him. He deleted it immediately and made an immediate, genuine, and honest apology.

But let's hang him because he's rich (for some reason you brought his pay in to this).

BBC presenters are also required to be impartial and not side with political causes , even when off screen .

Circumstances and pressure forced him to take down the repost and offer the apology.  He wouldn't have done so if there hadn't been a huge outcry.

I don't want to hang him, only see him fired for being an antisemite, not for being rich.  I brought in his pay because a high salary is usually the result of high regard, high skill or high popularity.  Lineker has an abysmally low knowledge of modern history and doesn't deserve high regard or popularity.

He's not going to be fired, nor should he be.  The BBC's policies about what presenters can and cannot do was agreed after the last 'outcry' about his excellent tweets.

Apparently the pressure on Lineker is mounting from within the BBC.  That's a bit surprising, since Lineker is not the worst antisemite on the BBC, although he may have the highest profile (and salary!).  It would be an enormous change if the BBC i9s finally cracking down on staff members who hate Jews.

Gary Lineker on the brink of BBC exit after Zionism 'rat' post

Lineker’s £1.35m position is said to have become untenable after the latest controversy that angered BBC colleagues, insiders say

Gary Lineker is on the brink of exiting the BBC after facing days of pressure over a social media post, The i Paper understands.

Lineker is facing the end of his 26-year relationship with the BBC prematurely over the post, which was considered to be an antisemitic slur.

Bye then, shut the door on the way out................

Gary Lineker is expected to announce that he is leaving the BBC on Sunday May 25 and will not front its 2026 World Cup coverage after the controversy over an antisemitic social media post, it has emerged.
The former footballer turned pundit is set to leave by mutual agreement after 26 years with his final Match of the Day next Sunday, The Sun reported. A source at the BBC told The Times that Lineker’s position was seen as “untenable”.
The former England striker had been due to host the BBC’s coverage of the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Sounds similar to Lucy Connolly who put out an offensive tweet in the heat of the moment and then deleted it of her on volition within 3.5 hours and then made an immediate, genuine and honest apology.

She is incarcerated for 31 months.

She didn't just post an "offensive" tweet!  She made violent threats towards people!

No, she did not.   Posting that "people can set fire to the hotels for all I care" is not a direct call to violence, it is merely indifference to it.   Here is an example of someone posting actual incitement to violence.   How long do you think he should be locked up for?
