The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is positively beaming as European tourists flock to the country. The TAT governor, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, reveals that the visitor count from Europe has soared, with a stunning 3.5 million arrivals between January and April.

This marks a significant 18.91% increase compared to last year, with tourists from Britain, France, Germany, and Russia leading the charge.

Remarkably, Russia boasted 1.74 million visitors last year, with a 17.72% jump, while Germany's tourist numbers surged by 19.78%, bringing in 873,364 visitors.

The UK and France also made hefty contributions with 965,862 (up 18.19%) and 281,803 visitors (up 29.81%) respectively. The first four months of this year saw a breathtaking rise: Israel's tourist influx ballooned by 91.07%, Uzbekistan by 62.57%, Poland by 38.94%, and Romania by 32.54%.

New and resumed direct flights from major European cities like London, Paris, and Madrid have played a pivotal role in bolstering these figures.

Flights from cities such as Brussels and Stockholm have opened new avenues for tourism, significantly contributing to this positive trend. As of now, Britain's visitor count has risen by 20.83%, France by 21.41%, and Germany by 13.03%.

Looking ahead, bookings for the July-September period have increased by 21%, and the TAT anticipates a further 17% rise during the high season from October to December.

This all spells out a thriving and bustling tourism landscape for Thailand, driven significantly by European enthusiasm. The nation's hospitality, paired with accessible flights, is crafting an inviting narrative that is enticing droves of tourists from across Europe.

As the year progresses, Thailand remains a prime holiday destination, outshining past records with no indications of slowing down.

With strategic earlier investments in tourism and connectivity paying off, the TAT's optimism appears well-placed. As such, the future holds promising potential for even more visitors seeking the tropical allure of Thailand's shores.

lol yesterday tourism was in dire straits. Eagerly await tomorrow’s news… ‘Thailand welcomes one million visitors in one day’, or ‘Thailand has its worst day with just one flight arrival’.

  • That is a myth...and it's not just about fighting, it's all the other problems that drugs bring with them, the lives it ruins...how about telling that to the 2 girls that have been arrested this week

And we all know why they are coming...free entry and more weed shops than 7/11s

The dope hub of SE.Asia...lovely moniker to have for attracting quality tourists

Weed smokers fight less than drunks and cause less trouble. Euros are major boozers so gibing them weed helps keep the peace

I doubt that anyone European is coming to Thailand for the cannabis. If they need it that  badly they can go to Germany or Malta or a coffee shop in the Netherlands. At least a trip to Amsterdam allows a visit to some of the world's finest art collections. My Swedish friend used to take the ferry to Estonia when he was  in University. Easy cannabis and easy women he used to say.

Not necessarily true in Thailand. It seems that the older western dope smokers in SE Asia  bring with them multiple mental health issues and the  cannabis allows the  behavioral problems to  manifest themselves.

You'd be surprised...it is a major problem now.

There's a huge difference between using weed to catch a little buzz and distribution of heroin, meth or pills. The problems drugs bring is the greed associated with them, which leads to harsh crimes, death and prison sentences. Millions of lives are ruined by alcohol  and it's been legal a long time, as well as cigarette use. Overeating ruins more lives than almost everything together.

Who distributes weed, who gets imprisoned for 20 years for trafficking weed, who murders for weed...you are slightly deluded saying catching a buzz from weed is innocent

Examples? I know 25 of us here in Siem Reap, we are all crazy but harmless, except to pizzas.

Europeans are switching from USA to anywhere else - not surprisingly law-abiding tourists they do not fancy getting jailed by the crazies at US border).  So numbers go up in Thailand.

Weed isn't the problem as you said it was. The distribution of anything illegal is. That they put people in jail for 20 years for selling weed shows just how ignorant the justice system is. The same justice system that lets murderers out in 5. The same justice system that automatically gives women the children without thinking of where they are better suited. The same system that allows rich people to get away with crimes where others are jailed for decades.

Weed used socially, in homes or outside away from children, has never been or will never be a problem. Alcohol kills people every day, all year long. Cigarettes kill slowly but surely. Doctors prescribe legal drugs that kill more people than almost anything else.

I'll never be deluded as I know the truth. I've used weed and it was never a problem, and I know hundreds of people in the same boat. All working, homeowners, raised children. Do you actually think getting drunk is somehow safer than smoking weed?

That might be true for some, as there are plenty of people who should never smoke weed or drink booze as it may exacerbate their conditions. For people who have no mental issues, smoking weed can help them cope with life stressors easier.

Liar. Please show us examples of law abiding tourists being jailed by crazies at the US border.

Yes, it's long been known to help cancer patients for pain and nausea.

Don't know what Georgia (Russia) and Sri Lankas murder.semtances are so kinda irrelevant.

I was responding to your statement that weed is a major problem, that catching a buzz isn't an innocent act. What I said is that trafficking of drugs is the problem. Hard drugs being the principle ones that cause deaths and long jail sentences. Weed should have been legal all along, as it was for a time earlier. Old school ignorant thinkers made it the demon weed. Weed compared to hard drugs is a night and day thing, especially where trafficking is concerned. People are in jail for personal use and that's ignorance.

Yo-Yo Tourism performance in Thailand?

This has had very little impact on my life, here where I am.

The only thing that might improve my life is another pandemic, of course.

From do do's to gravy all in one week. Amazing Thailand.
