They did not initially come to do that.......came to wage war!

Well that’s right Jacko

But that was in the days when the American women didn’t t do combat. So there were no women for the men.
R and R

it still happens to this day.

A recent AN survey revealed about half of Thai wives and girlfriends were met in bars, gogos, massage parlors, soapies and online.

3rd and 4 th generation now.

It was actually a fishing village until the farangs showed up to exploit the poor.

Correct. And 90 percent of prostitution in Thailand is thai on thai.

So any comment on the overwhelming majority of exploiting going on being locals.

Another white knight to the rescue.

Nothing new here.  Let's face it, prostitutes openly soliciting on Beach Road does not look good.

When it's so easy to find a prostitute working legally in a bar or gogo, or soliciting illegally, but more discreetly, surely cleaning up the image of Beach Road is no bad thing.  Of course, it won't work as the fines are minimal and usually instant, so they are hardly a deterrent!

You,do,the math. Millions of thai women have children and aren't sex workers.

I said above agree, if the girl has a supporting boyfriend/husband, or from a well off family who can help her.

Calculate her expenses mate, you'll be in for a shock and don't forget to add the petty girl needs, things you never purchase like hygiene items, clothing, deodorant, sanitary pads, monthly internet........ 12k baht is nowhere near enough money

I've been there, lived with these girls, their maintenance costs are much greater to that of an old, angry man

But somehow millions of women make.it work. Many on their own without help or prostitution.

IMPOSSIBLE, not the very poor

You refuse to calculate her expenses, her budget, just typing nonsense.

This is IGNORANCE

I think you didn't read the article carefully.

It's not the prostitution itself that is an issue, if it's done discretely.

It's the violent altercations that are an issue. These stories scare people away.

The authorities do not want violence.

That's why they are only cracking down on the beach road activities. Because it's freelancing, there are altercations.

Ok.

The stories we read seem to suggest that only Thai bar girls take their partners to to the cleaners. I can assure you that this practice is world wide but that doesn't make headlines because everyone is aware of this,

Lots of Western "respectable" women also tend to "take their partners to to the cleaners".

If they don't work them into and early grave "keeping up with the Joneses" they take all they can get in divorce court.

Of course some people will dismiss what I say but it is very clear to anyone who is honest with themselves.

Pattaya's reputation is built on prostitution. Who would come here otherwise.

The marketing team that tries hard to bring conventions  and trade shows to pattaya  disagrees.

Between now and the end of July there are 16 trade shows and expos in Pattaya.

Between now and the end of May, there are 37 Conferences and  international meetings. That's 1 week's worth

These are not insignificant events either. This is just some of the events  in the coming day;

-International Conference on European Law and Vaccine Policy (ICELVP )

-International Conference on Biological Oceanography and Marine Biology (ICBOMB)

-International Conference on Pediatric Psychiatry and Medicine (ICPPM)

- International Conference on Statistics and Chemometrics in Analytical Chemistry (ICSCAC)

- International Conference on Discourse Studies (ICDS)

-International Conference on Sport and Exercise Science (ICSAES)

Pattaya is a trade show and meeting venue. These are the people who populate the   nicer hotels and who are the big spenders. They are not  going to the cheap beer bars for Leos, and to chat with toothless faded farangs. Pattaya could close the  trashy bars with little negative impact on the economy.

In the west the government would provide social security and welfare payments (thousands of dollars after the birth) for these young mothers, government would garnish the fathers wages, the woman may be on maternity leave, she has income but sadly in Thailand these very POOR young woman (girls) have no money to support herself and her baby.

Don't know what you consider "the west" but must exclude USA regarding all these 'safety nets'

You really want to improve Pattaya's image?

Here is how: ban the overweight prostitutes, and Pattaya will look so much better the next day!

rejuvenate Pattaya's allure as a destination free from criminal activities.

Never happen.  Never was.  We never wanted Pattaya free from girls.  A lot of us came for the girls.   Now I see the beach and the girls are gone and their mothers are working hard to bring home some bacon.  Gross but I guess necessary

I had an uncontrollable chuckle when I read the headline to this article.
What planet are these people on? It is what it is and what it has been for decades. Someone has their head up their @rse. There is not a single person on this planet who gives a crap about Pattaya’s image. It caters to a niche market and Thailand should man up and rake in the benefits. Their focus should be on cleaning out the the more seedy aspects and promoting it as a safe sex destination. They are sitting on a gold mine and all they need to do is manage it properly.

This is really great and I'm happy for you. Your case seems to be the exception rather than the rule as you probably well know. Having lived in LOS for about 8 years you hear ALL the stories of farangs getting taken to the cleaners marrying bar girls. I remember talking to an Irishman on the Pattaya Bangkok bus lines 10 years ago or so. Sobbing most of the way to Bangkok. Did the typical marriage thing, bought here a house in her name with most of his money  blah blah. She kicked him out and took it all.

I also married a Pattaya girl. 21 years ago. Still very happily married.

What they don't seem to understand is that you cannot protect Pattaya's image, you cannot worry about hurting the image of a place that already has a horrific reputation.

Cannot lose what they never have in the first place.

Oh dear; another 24 hr Crackdown.  Been hearing about these for more than 20 years, apart from when the Idiots tell us there is no Prostitution in Pattaya.

I can remember more than 35 years ago when Pattaya had the 'Image' of being the 'Sex City' of The World to anyone outside of this Country.   Bit difficult all these years later to try and stop this 'Image'  !

Concerns have grown over violent incidents and crimes associated with these activities, stirring action to protect Pattaya’s tourism reputation. The operation's intent is to rejuvenate Pattaya's allure as a destination free from criminal activities.

Something apparently lost in translation here?  In order to "rejuvenate" something it must have existed at some point in the past.  Prostitution is illegal in Thailand.  The allure of Pattaya was built on illegal activities.

One of the most stupid headlines ever seen in recent years.

Pattaya is meant to be built to live on prostitution in the first place.

Developed for R&R during the Vietnam War era.

Getting rid of its ”primary" revenue sources, ready for severe recession in that town.
