Are We Prepared for a Real Life Situation With a Sudden Loss of Tech?

Shameless plug here.  I recently bought a DJI Power 1000 portable power supply for a specific need and it's been real handy for portable power above and beyond the project I bought it for.  Back in Texas, I took the batteries out of the boats to charge up the phones and tablets when the power went out for over a week.  The DJI would have been real handy.  Can also be charged with a running car with the proper cable (sold separately).

Of course you would be invaded and stripped of all that by those who don't have those means of survival, if the situation became permanent. The veneer of civilization is very thin.

I thought we talking about a few days?

Well, we got dogs, proper guardian dogs, my heavy bag hanging outside  in the car park as a warning, baton, solar powered motion lights, flash lights with high lumen (tactical lights works preventive day and night)

And gun. Edit note Forgot arrow bow. Neighbours know this lunatic 100kg muscle farang living outside the village 🤓

On the Seriously side, I think most will be okay for a month or even longer countryside, where life is a bit more simple than many other places. Families stay together and team up to ease the situation and contribute. We also have house in the village in a family based part of it.

And if ragnarock, who knows what's going to happen really. Just have to deal with, or leave this place for good?

I'd bet that less that 1 out of 100 know what a CME is and 1 out of 1000 know what the Carrington Event was.

Hint:  It didn't have anything to do with universal Western boogeymen (Russians, Chinese, Iranians, North Koreans).

In moments like that, it’s not the end of the world, but it can feel like it if you’re not ready, especially if you don’t really know what’s happening or how long it’s going to last. Situations where you can’t charge your phone. No QR codes. No apps. No bank transfers. You can’t even pay with a physical debit or credit card. And unless you’ve got an old-school radio stashed away with batteries in it, you won’t even know what’s actually going on. It’s the kind of situation where real cash is suddenly needed again, and so is having a bit of backup power.

100% solar now, the grid can go as far as I'm concerned!

Hundreds of movies, tv series, books and music on my NAS.

My MTB has electric power assist, plus full tanks in both scooters.

I've got enough flour for a week or two of bread, a sack of rice for the misses, and plenty of tea bags and powdered milk. Fridge is a bit empty at the moment, but I cooked a joint of pork yesterday, so not that desperate for meat.

And my misses is very chatty with the local shop and market stall staff, so credit not a problem.

Might be a problem during a crisis where supplies are limited. Money talks and everything is suddenly 10X the normal price. Were you in Thailand during the 2011 floods? It was extortion level sh*t. No Thai smiles.

Solar....  Isn't that where CME's come from?  And all those panels are like big ass advertisements for the zombies.  Get your brains here...

I do have 3 swords, just in case of zombie attack.

I'm hoping for slow zombies!

The "top 10" most worrying threats of an apocalypse, often seen in fictional and real-world contexts, include:
  1. 1. Climate Change:
Extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and ecological collapse are major concerns.

  2. 2. Nuclear War:
Deliberate or accidental escalation of nuclear conflict remains a significant threat.

  3. 3. Pandemics:
The emergence of new, highly infectious diseases could lead to widespread devastation.

  4. 4. Asteroid Impact:
The possibility of a large asteroid colliding with Earth, causing a global catastrophe, is a long-term concern.

  5. 5. Supervolcanic Eruption:
A supervolcanic eruption could release vast quantities of ash and gases, leading to global cooling and disruption.

  6. 6. Artificial Intelligence:
The potential for AI to become uncontrollable and harmful to humanity is a growing concern.

  7. 7. Erosion of Social Cohesion:
Increased polarization and a decline in social trust can weaken societies' ability to cope with major crises.

  8. 8. Geoeconomic Confrontation:
Increased competition and conflict between nations can lead to instability and conflict.

  9. 9. Cybercrime and Cyber Insecurity:
Widespread cyberattacks and the breakdown of critical infrastructure could cause chaos and disruption.

  10. 10. Natural Resource Crises:
Depletion of essential resources like water, food, and energy can lead to social unrest and conflict.

There will always be more of them than there are of you - 1,000+ against 1. And they will all have guns and other long range weapons. You are in the wrong place to think you would even have a remote chance. You might last 5 minutes longer with that kit than without it. That's about all. #PIPEDREAMING

Agree. A big risk. You don't want to advertise. Better to keep a low profile.

Every farm have basically the same, we do not stand out in any way, and alot of more people who are less fortunate than us when it comes to being secured.

We had a few runs of yaba boys on motorbikes, who turned around when they saw our dog we have loose in the daytime, and we had fake police showing up on our doorstep, who didn't walk out of the car because of our dog.

Presented himself as a policeman checking the neighborhood for how many people living in the houses, and also what we had for security.

Only mom in law home at the time, since we where abroad, and she answer we let loose the other dogs in the night. So I guess he imagined the dogs locked up a bit more scary than our full breed American bully.

Detwcting Cameras on solar power and sim card wifi.

All this because her mom and dad where afraid of staying alone at the farm when we are not there.

Every postman knows us, and the neighborhood because of our dogs. They never bite anyone, but are  quite frankly intimidating since they are not scared and nervous of people like normal Thai dogs.

When that said, if people gang up, and want to do harm to others because of their resources, there is time to move on. Not worth it

Most cases we hear about, thais stealing from each other, fruit, vegetables, animals, fish, and weak elderly people invaded, beaten and robbed. Not often you hear about violent robbery, but happens

Lots of fire wood for cooking if need be.
