I will be leaving Thailand for an extended stay away.

Since Krungsri will stop Online Banking this coming October 2025.

Would there phone app works with a foreign number or foreign internet provider?

Also can a customer get OTP using a foreign number?

I see in there Mobile app one can put a foreign number, is there another step to register with Krungsri that number?

Problem you'll have if you lose your phone or buy a phone whilst abroad, you have to visit branch to set up again.

Not sure they accept foreign numbers for OTPs, not seen it mentioned before, use a Thai sim instead

Do that mean I can't use Internet banking with Krungsri anymore? 😕

Yeah them shutting down online banking is exactly that.

Time for you to move to mobile banking perhaps.

I just returned from the US after a month long stay. I had no proble using the phone app while in the USA to transfer and also scan qr codes from shopee from there. I dont have 2 step authorization set up but do use my fingerprint. I had my US sim in the phone which doesn't matter as its handle via the Internet.  Not sure what the future holds though as they are changing some of their systems.

@node - and make sure that its registration and your Krungsri details match each other exactly (see thread below)! Strikes me that this could prove to be the major stumbling block to foreign numbers being used for Thai bank account OTP's in any event.

Actually not. Never had any app on my phone and never will. My handphone are only with me when out for long bicycle rides in case I end in the ditch  🙂

I went to AIS and was told to get OTP from a Thai Bank outside  you need data roaming. Not sure if they were trying to sell me a packing.

I returned home, disabled AIS, using VPN in my router on a foreign country, I connected to wifi on my mobile, rechecked my IP and location is in that country, opened Krungsri app took awhile to open, guess they were checking my IP,  but was in.

I have experience with Krungsri if they update their app and required to update your passport information you must go into a branch, unlike Bangkok Bank where you lift up your passport and move one head from side to side, smile etc. Krungsri stated you must visit a branch to do this. They literally lock the account unit I went in.

You use a bicycle? But won't use a banking app? That is quite a charming eccentricity.

Best to pop into your bank and ask them don't you think; or ring them on  1572

To be quite honest, change your bank to Kasikorn or SCB before you leave. Those are modern banks. Krungthai and Krungsri are old-style banks. They probably even use manual typewriters still. I've used SCB for many years. Their online app is very good.

Mobile banking is on its way out. What was once "oh wow modern" is now drab and clunky. It's from yesteryear.

The two bank you mention will soon be doing away with Internet banking because it is expensive to maintain & requires too many staff. Apps are the future.

Great that you find it charming, but I can tell you that 3 hours of road biking at an average speed of 35 km/h is not very charming for us over the top, but it gives a certain satisfaction, maybe especially with the thought that we are doing something and are not dependent on anything other than our own will and strength and not an app.😉
