I think you are correct regarding your interpretation of how the Popular Contributors works.

The benefit of the thumbs down is that the poster you allude to, @Harrisfan, can no longer appear on the list by default due to the huge number of negative emoji's his posts attract. He therefore can no longer claim 'a win' (whatever that means) as he previously did.

This is reason enough to keep the thumbs down emoji.

I wish I could run a script that would automatically downvote every post that Sparktrader/Bignok/Dolf/Uttradit/Susan Lea/Harrisfan* makes. He's not a complete write-off, I agree with some of the stuff he says, but he loves himself just a little too much to be taken seriously. Like a few other Aussies here, he has crossed the line from larrikin to FIGJAM and therefore can't be taken seriously.

Keep LIKE, add DO NOT LIKE, keep AGREE. That's pleanty. If a replier wants to say more, let them type it.

Better still, Just keep LIKE or nothing. Although a middle digit or a steaming turd might be effective alternatives.

Yes it is a bit strange.

Even stranger as a supposed grown man you are so concerned about emojis.

The only reason they are included is for the children on the forum.

Try harder...

One of the points I will make here...  Given your revolting moral compass and chronic need to pollute this forum with your tiresome provocations, I'll grant you this much: at least you're not a coward hiding behind anonymous emojis. You still manage to display a modicum of spine by engaging directly. Your predictable efforts to challenge me are, predictably, beneath contempt, but I confess they provide a meagre source of entertainment.

I just think you show a bit more respect to Thai people, you are in their country.

I don’t care about the rudeness you show to me but I hate seeing farangs like you who are rude to and are endlessly complaining about Thais.

You obviously have a big chip on your shoulder.

Maybe you would find peace in another country?

The poll should have an “I don’t care” option for adults.

Awwww... Malcy... You are so tragic...      You can't help it... you care so much and pretend you don't....

there is already so much rant/trolling and personal attacks that showing who gives what emojis would be kaos and personal vendetta would top the site, better stay incognito,  let people guess

The concept is that people would be less likely to engage in personal attacks when there isn't complete anonymity.  I tend to agree.

Personally given all the snark and sniping on this forum, I'd suggest we do away with the Thumb-Down emoji and swap it out for a Middle-Finger emoji.  What Say You Brothers and Sisters AN Members!

I would like to understand how the Popular Contributors on the right side of my browsers works.

I think prior to the thumbs down you got a point for any emoji on your posts. I believe a very unpopular member just posted thousands of post daily to be on the leader board. I believe the thumbs down takes away from the  Popular Contributors stats and that poster is no longer in the Popular Contributors.

If they do away with the thumbs down they should remove the Popular Contributors as well.

I agree with this. The leaderboard thing is what is responsible for 98% of the absolute guff that gets posted as OPs. Constant, daily, inanity. No need to name names. People posting for no other reason than to "win the day" or whatever it is called, and they even brag about it and think it stands for something.

And post counts mean the same handful of people (again no names but we all know who) just drop a meaningless one liner on to EVERY SINGLE TOPIC just to get their ridiculous post count up.

Get rid of those things, keep the emojis and this would be a much better place. But then I guess the traffic created by the sheer volume of inane topics is good for business and we get this for free, so I guess it is what it is.

Mate, if you dialled it down a couple of notches then you might be a fella worth having a beer with. Until then I'll be crossing the road to avoid you.

There's a fine line between larrikinism and head up yer own arse. You deffo need to learn where that line is.

Ha, ha says the newbie

Welcome aboard, to AN forums new guy, joined last week and  full of hostility.

I see you will fit right in here, the Grumpy guys forum. 😂😂😂😂

I've been here a long time, I have a big family and good friends, some Thai, some foreigners, I don't need to be drinking beer with you.

These days I avoid all unknown foreigners, too many weirdos and Psycho's arriving.

BTW, big mouth, don't forget to deliver my t shirt 😡

You're out of your mind mate.

Are you one of those pot heads, I see many around town these days.

Don’t like it as it is overused by the deranged and stalkers. Should probably bring back who is posting them (and possibly take emoji posting rights away from downvote ‘abusers’ 😋), but then you get tit for tat pissing contests because they downvoted me etc etc. Still a believer in just having the + / - and dump the rest. But of course it’s not in the forum owners’ interests since some poor souls serial post for their likes, which in turn generates more content.

Thumbs down is aiming at the content of a post, middle finger would be aiming at the poster.

Deflection Malcolm. I do not see him complaining about Thais. Most of us know all about the habits of some locals and they aren't angels. The same goes for some foreigners. The difference is that you and a few others here are yes, constantly talking down foreigners and deflecting away from locals who break the laws. Look up what being a brown noser is.

Freddy, ... it's a bit early mate to be drinking.

BROWN NOSER, no one here is getting rewarded for our comments, we are not sucking up to anyone, it's our opinion.

You just can't get it through your head that we are living in Thailand, locals have always been breaking the law, they were doing it before we all arrived.

We are talking down about the nasty, hostile, disrespectful foreigners, these people were not here or very, very few, when we arrived.

We are reading about these miserable, nasty foreigners daily, we've had enough of their bad behaviour. It's why we make comment everyday, it's why you read our negative comments everyday.

Get it in your head mate, stop with the name calling, it shows us all it WAS you on the psychologist sofa getting analysed. 😂

Do you have to act like a clueless teen every day? Assuming, like your other 3 cronies, that I'm a drinker. Remember what I said earlier. I've been a gym person for 50 years, weights and martial arts, along with a healthy diet all along. I know you can't fathom that, even with your superior genes and mind reading ability, but that means I wouldn't be anything besides a moderate drinker.

Yes, I have been living in Thailand for some years now, and have known decades before I moved here about the daily crime that happens here. That you and your cronies are always putting down foreigners and not realizing that foreigners have been doing these things for decades, and that the locals are committing crimes daily, a lot more than you'll ever know, shows your level of thinking, which is very strange in and of itself, and more so seeing you're a foreigner yourself.

Do you actually think you're a local now just because you spend money here? Have you noticed how many detractors you have, that have commented in the exact same ways that I do? We are also reading, daily, about what goes on here with the locals, yet you concentrate on the foreigners who do wrong, the majority of which are tourists. .............Your words, "We are reading about these miserable, nasty foreigners daily, we've had enough of their bad behaviour. It's why we make comment everyday, it's why you read our negative comments everyday" ..................... Do you realize it's mainly you and those other 4 that are making almost all of the comments? .

And stop with the answering for others, because the only others that agree with you are those same 4, and collectively you amount to nothing but daily annoyance. Take notice of others that see what you really are. I'm hardly the only one.

It is pretty pathetic.

They really need to grow up, accept responsibility and stop forever posting emojis, it is childlike.
