Phuket's political landscape is set for change as the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT Phuket) has confirmed the election results, appointing ten new mayors across the island. After a slight delay, the ECT's main office in Bangkok validated the outcomes on June 4, leaving some residents curious about the transparency of the process.

Here's an overview of the newly elected mayors and their municipalities:

  1. Patong: Lalita Maneesri of the Patong Creative Party takes the helm, promising a fresh approach to the vibrant beach town known for its nightlife and tourism sectors.
  2. Phuket Town: Supachok Laongphet of the Rak Phuket Party will lead, facing challenges such as traffic congestion and the demands of the tourism sector with eager residents anticipating new solutions.
  3. Chalong: Samran Jindapol from the Chalong Kao Mai Party returns to office after reclaiming his seat, bringing experience to the municipality.
  4. Rawai: Thames Kraitat of the Tum Tay Pattana Rawai Party won uncontested, indicating potential stability for this southernmost area.
  5. Wichit: Kreetha Chotiwichpipat continues his leadership with the Pattana Wichit Team, having secured re-election.
  6. Ratsada: Jirayut Songyot of the Ko Yut Ratsada Party takes office for the first time, with plans to revitalize this historic area.
  7. Pa Khlok: Panya Samphaorat of the Pa Klok Gao Na Party returns despite ongoing corruption charges, sparking debate over his eligibility.
  8. Cherng Talay: Sunnirun Rachataphruek of the New Step Party wins as the sole candidate, preparing to lead amid questions about governance differences with the Cherng Talay Subdistrict Administration Organisation.
  9. Srisoonthorn: Chalermpon Kerdsap of the Srisoonthorn Pen Nueng Party retains his mayoral position, continuing his leadership.
  10. Karon: Wallop Nadon from the Chaoban Party, newly elected, will focus on improving local infrastructure and enhancing the beach resort’s appeal.

These leaders bring a mix of new perspectives and experienced governance to the table as they tackle issues of tourism management, local development, and infrastructure improvement. With Phuket being a significant hub for tourism in Thailand, all eyes will be on how these mayors navigate the challenges and opportunities presented in their respective roles. Residents and stakeholders alike anticipate the positive changes these appointments could usher in for the island.
