Fake Rolex Misadventures Highlight the Value of Authentic Quality

Featured Replies

From the OP:  This anecdote finds resonance with a story shared by another buyer who paid VND6 million (US$230)

I'd be embarrassed, too if I spent that much on a fake Rolex.  When I first started traveling to China, I bought a bunch in Beijing for less than $40.   I used to give them to my Dad in full knowledge that they were fakes.  He'd wear them until they stopped working.  Some of them lasted for years.  Others, not so much.   They all looked good, unlike the fakes on the Mexican border that looked like trash.

My nieces and nephews asked me to bring them one, but I wouldn't.  I had a friend whose son was convicted of murder for shooting another student for his Rolex (it was real).  I was afraid someone would kill one of my nephews or cut off my niece's hand at the wrist, and it would be for a $40 fake.

He's referring to fake Rolex in the 1-2000$ range.   Not real ones at that price.

You wouldn't get a Rolex for $ 1-2000.  Starting from 5000 you're advised to buy from a reliable Dealer, preferably an authorized retailer. Btw, all inner parts of a Rolex got numbers imprin

Hope you're prepared for the cost of any service required from the Rolex BKK shop, i had a real Rolex back in 1995 and had it serviced 5 years later at a cost of £150, god knows what it would cost today !!! I appreciate your only getting it verified as real/high end copy/fake but these Rolex shops are known for being expensive just like the watches they sell.

Cost of validation is 1500 bht , full service is 13000bht if wanted . Cost of service at Rolex is 35-80,000 depending on if parts may need replacing.

I paid 28000 to service my omega at omega service in bkk and it came back looking like new.

When you start getting up to ones at 1-2000$ then only a good watch maker will be able to spot the difference. Some people just refuse to pay $10000-50000 for a Rolex that cost a few thousand to make .

So why have a fake one?

You can buy a good watch for 230, Seiko, Omega ?

Some people hardly wear watches or only when go out for dinner maybe  , so they don't see point of paying thousands for something they like the look off that is just going to sit in a box at home mostly.

Try going to omega and let me know if you get a watch for 230 😃👍

😄

I got one for you 😉

I do not wear watches or ring myself because of work, and before climbing. The only watches I wear is diving and gps watches with pulse meter, but only for those reasons

I just had a 42 yo Rolex Submariner serviced at the Rolex Service Center in Bangkok. It had stopped running and needed a complete overhaul.

Total cost was 72,000 Baht (about $2200 USD). And that was after declining to have a new bracelet put on. A rough price for a complete overhaul at an official Rolex Service Center is about $1500 USD. My price was higher due to the age of the watch. The older the watch the more expensive the service.

This was a watch that I bought brand new for $460 USD in 1982.

I rest my case lol

I paid £2650 in 1995 for my Oyster Perpetual Datejust two tone, the Rolex dealer discounted the price by £500 down to £2650 because i paid cash. He requested that i keep this deal to myself and don't let any other Rolex dealer know what he'd discounted my purchase by, evidently Rolex were against any discounts.

When i decided to move to Thailand in 2007 i could'nt see the point of having/wearing a real Rolex as everybody would assume it was a fake TIT and if the locals knew it was real they'd cut my arm off for it lol I sold it for £1650 to a very happy guy and just bought loads of fakes here in Thailand. Whenever my two sons visit me from the UK they help themselves to whatever they want.
