With the vast number of Indian male visitors, comes with it new problems. It's really begin to bother me around Bangkok and Pattaya, how open and unashamed Indian men seem to be out solicitation of prostitutes. There is decorum, no attempt at being a little discreet, no soft tones. It's loud, in your face, no shame, and open. I have not seen this open level of disgusting solicitation anywhere else in the world.

Regions of Thailand have always been this way, but the level of solicitation has increased ten fold over the past few years as Indian visitors have been let in visa free.

Walking down Pattaya with my family (not even on Beach Road), around Jomtiem, walking around certain areas of Bangkok - you see alot of Indian men just openly soliciting. If families are around, children, smart people, they do not care. It's loud.

They will often be in groups too, often haggling for a discount. You have a vulnerable Thai (or most likely now Burmese, Laos) lady having to take on 5 men as she needs the money. Her rationale will be 'i can take 5 men and take their 4000 baht, or wait for a couple of guys to give me 2000 baht'. Her logic will be to take indignity of going with 5 Indian men. Often, like a trading block, they will bargain with the large group to get a discount per man. The disgusting shame of being the 5th man in that group makes me want to vomit.

This bartering, negotiations are loud, open, public and unashamed. No attempt at all to be discreet or have shame. No attempt to keep the sound down, or go stand in the corner. Nope, it's their loud in your face. Like a little child has walked into a toy shop and can't contain his excitement. It's as if the shame o'meter has left their soul when they reach Thailand.

When our female work mates came to Pattaya, they could not wait to leave as Indian men simply viewed them as prostitutes. This can't be rite. You simply cannot go up to random women and assume they are prostitutes and begin to proposition them.

I walk around with my partner, my children, and often it's absolutely horrid to see.  I am by no means a prude. Every place in the world, be it the UK (Soho), Tokyo, Vegas, cities in Germany with legal red light districts, China all have their red light areas. It's a part of life. But i have not seen this open level of disgusting solicitation that we have seen in the past few years by Indian visitors.

I love India by the way. I love the country. Many Sikh soldiers died fighting for the UK in world wars, but there is a certain amount of horrid visitors to Thailand.

What do you all think? Can anything be done?

If they'd fought for Germany instead, you would have eros centers in the UK and India and wouldn't need to travel to Asia for sex.

Yes, when you see this happening, start video and dress them down, particularly when you are with your female work mates.

What the OP describes is normal behaviour for many Indian men.  I worked in India for 5 years, and men would blatantly sexually harass women at work, in the street, on trains, in hotels .... but they called it "Eve teasing".

The Indian males and others engage in the practice because not enough people tell them no or to stop it.

If not one stops an anti social act it becomes part of the culture.

Of course red light area of Beach Road is the worst. It's always been seedy in the midnight hours. But last few years it's gone crazy ... even during day light hours. Scores and scores of indian on the prowl up and down. It's never been on this level before.

And it's this level that is really disturbing to see. Seeing a prostitute get into a Grab with 5 indian men (no matter what race to be honest) - that is one of the worst sights on this planet. How vulnerable she has to be go through with that. And it's done out in the open.

Reminds me of a remark an old friend ( Thai lady running a small bar in Pattaya) made a while ago about the behavior of groups of Indian tourists; them going to 7-Eleven to buy one bottle of beer and sharing it among four or five people (instead of going to a bar and ordering individual beers that is). She despised them wholeheartedly.

I’ve been to Pattaya numerous times over the past (nearly) 30 years. I’ve always thought Pattaya changes quickly, adapting to waves of tourists from different countries. A money making machine dancing to the song of whoever brings the money at the moment. When I first visited, both tourists and Expats were mostly middle-Europeans and Americans. Used to love the place.  Over the years, there have been waves of Chinese, Russians, Arabs, Koreans etc., and lately, Indians. Each wave brings new changes, and many bars and restaurants change ownership to cater to the new dominant group.
I’m not a big fan of the current Indian wave, nor the proliferation of kebab stalls or the declining quality of local street food and food courts at Pattaya shopping malls, now mostly run by migrants instead of Thais.

The question is: Which wave comes next? Can it get any worse?

I used to get soapies in Pattaya, and while you wait for the tub to fill for initial bathing, you chat with the girls. If the topic of favorite or least favorite type customers came up, they consistently replied they didn't like men from India. Those guys were not interested in getting in the bathtub for a good cleaning and mostly wanted dirty butt sex. Just sayin'.

You do hear this often from Thai women. Who do you despite most, they always say Indians.

My local worker, his wife works in a legit massage shop, she's in her 50's. He hates the fact his wife has to massage Indian mens feet - he feels that is the ultimate shame in his eyes, to the point he despises his own wife for doing it.

 You can't do anything.

Nobody contributing to AN can do anything.

?  The hookers are there for business.

If a person does not like what they see or hear, then don't go to the areas where they are.

True. As i said, most cities around the world have red light districts. My point is i have never seen open disgusting solicitation like this anywhere Even 2 years ago you could walk along Beach Road during the day and not see anything remotely sexual. Now, large groups of Indian men are on the prowl during the day.

That's the point i am trying to make it has become so out of control, so in your face.

If any guy on here thinks of approaching a prostitute, most educated decorum would be to try and be a tad discreet, quiet word with the lady, etc. If you saw little children and families walking past, you may keep it even more discreet. But the problem with this wave of Indian men is they simply do not care - it's a remarkable feature to have no shame at all.

Pattaya is just becoming less and less attractive as the scummiest of the scum show up in droves.

It always sickens me to see these misogynistic neanderthals hounding poor Thai girls and just completely ignoring Thai culture and belittling them. I've seen em' do it in groups, 3 or 4 of em' hounding a poor beach girl.

Just damned ugly anyway you slice it.

What to do about it? What can be done? Pattaya has evolved for sacks of sh!t like them where they can be the complete a-holes that they are. Pattaya is built on the backs of poor girls from poor families. The uneducated and desperate woman of Thailand. It's really horrible.

I get the feeling we wouldn't agree on much, but I agree with you on this one. The way it's so open in Thailand has never sat well with me along with the full-moon party degeneracy. As for the demographics? Well if a large amount of South Asians and/or Sub Saharans turn up somewhere in numbers then 9/10 it's a wrap for that place. An ancient Hebrew saying goes, and i'm paraphrasing: 'Always bring in the Ku<deleted>es to <deleted> up the <deleted>able'.

My first week in Thailand back in 2009, walked past a bar, 10 girls ran out, picked me up, and ran back in the bar with me on their shoulders.

They should have been more discreet ........ Damn those Indian guys ...........

I haven't seen what you describe happening in Jomtien yet, I'd say the Indians stay in south/central Pattaya. For as long as I remember the beach side of Pattaya beach road has always been a blight of open solicitation and down and out local drunks, druggies and vagrants. The fact the authorities didn't clean it up years ago answers your question - nothing WILL be done about it.

Avoiding it and obvious areas where what you dislike happens is your only solution.
