PATTAYA –  Police arrested 25 Chinese nationals linked to an illegal online loan operation in Chonburi, including one overstaying by five years.

On 17th June 2025, under the direction of Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatkiat Jindakawnnaong, officers from Pattaya City Police executed search warrants at two luxury properties in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, Chonburi.

The raids revealed 25 Chinese nationals, 24 men and 1 woman, running an online loan service targeting clients in China using the QQ app.

The operation uncovered that these individuals entered Thailand on tourist visas without work permits. Among them, Mr Qiao, aged 42, was found to have overstayed his visa by five years, one month, and four days.

Authorities seized evidence, including Chinese language notebooks, financial ledgers, laptops, mobile phones, and internet routers. The group used these tools to operate their illicit loan business. All suspects were apprehended without resistance.

The 25 individuals are facing charges of "participation in a secret society with unlawful intentions" and "engaging in work without appropriate permits", and the charge against Mr Qiao includes "overstaying a visa". All suspects and seized items were handed over to Pattaya police for further legal proceedings.

Never ever because they love the Chinese.

"participation in a secret society with unlawful intentions"

Weird-assed crime.

Given the avalanche of bureaucratic forms, reports and photocopies - all signed with blue ink - it should really not be a problem to run a list of all non-Thais who are, according to the database with the immigration, illegally here.

A visitor gets a stay permit for X, Y or Z days, i.e. admittance until a date. The day AFTER that date the visitor is in overstay. Given a grace period of a week or ten days one still could go and look, where they are. The given address might reveal some details (or is fake as well) and one still could nevertheless nail down a tidy number of overstayers.

Just saying - no need to hunt

Chinese debt collectors are alive and well in Thailand they love  lending money and collecting it at high interest rates, just another branch of the chinese Mafia

Chineese are at the forefront of scams,  extortion and kidnappings of their own countrymeni with theircriminal  operations based in Thaland.

Recent arrests are probably the tip of a much  larger picture.

I totally missed that. So this is the euphemism for Chinese mafia? I see. Secret society. Not like people who dress like Furbies or weirdos in white robes.

Let us be more objective and lay the situation at the feet of Visa Exempt permissions.
