Popular Post rogerpattaya Posted 5 hours ago Popular Post Posted 5 hours ago I am on a retirement extension and have been for many years. Jomtien is my local office and I do my own yearly extension and 90 day reports. I have never had a problem with them, sure I have to go back the next day to pick up my passport, well boohoo. I am retired and have all the time in the world to jump through the hoops once a year. If you are from Europe, don't you wish your country had done this to migrants 50 years ago. Thailand is protecting it's own people, good for them. Stop complaining and treat it as a day out... 1 5 2 6 4 1

Popular Post Farmerslife Posted 4 hours ago Popular Post Posted 4 hours ago Also some people are retired and have all the time in the world to magnify small inconveniences into mountains. Sadly, it is what we tend to do as we get older. Thankfully, I have, so far, managed to avoid any major difficulties with Immigration, minor hiccups, yes but nothing more. However there are others who have fallen foul of the rules for reasons they may not understand. Some come on here to seek help, others to just bellyache. It's just human nature. 1 1 1 1

quake Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Yes immigration is never a problem until it is. For those that have lived in the same province for many years , use the same office all the time. sure you know the ropes and it's mostly an easy task. But move to a different province and all that can change. and they would be the first to come on here crying. big Yawn 3

If you have trouble with retirement extensions, it is mostly of your own doing. Yes some minor issues and friction can occur, but if you have your stuff in order, seldom a problem. I cannot comment on other types of extensions or visas. Now I hear that things may be changing recently and going forward also with retirement, I cannot comment on that until I see the real fallout. And finally, I also totally agree with OP that if Europe had done a similar border control pluss no handouts to immigrants, then we would not be in such bad shape. Not magic really. 1

Almost 25 years of doing visa extensions every year. It's just not a problem. It's a once-a-year project that takes my wife about an hour to check-assemble-doublecheck all our documents (She goes to Immigration two days before our visit to finalize exactly which documents we will need to bring this year...) so never a problem. We always make backup copies of each document. We've never been sent back to get more. One year, a 'volunteer checker' threw away several documents she said we didn't need. When we got to the Imm agent (back when you still faced them in Chiang Mai) he required them. Fortunately, we had made those extra copies of ALL our papers, so we just handed him those from the packet. Extension granted for another year. I will admit that dealing with Japanese immigration was a lot easier, and only needed to do it every 5 years. 1

All things you know or should know before deciding to be a 'guest' in TH. You chose TH, and nobody is forcing you to come or stay. Accept and follow the well established rules in place before you arrived. Agree with OP, staying here is extremely simple, and been doing all the paperwork myself. Location depended, but 1 hour +/- once a year at IO isn't going kill me. As stated, as welcome day out, as 100 kms away. 2 visits to the bank, which I need to go there anyway, for 1, so an extra visit to pick up paperwork isn't that stressing. If on lump sum, it's only 1 visit. 2 minutes online doing 90 day pulse checks ... OMG, the inconvenience. 3 1

And that's an inconvenience, popping into Imm to do a 90 day pulse check. Not he 3 hours of check in, at both ends, and hours in a sardine can, that is so much fun. It's all relative, and the minor things people that 'chose to be in TH' complain about is truly mind boggling. If that much of an inconvenient, since you endorse the use of agents, just pay one to do it for you. 1

One could use the word "complain" however it's more about zero attempt to streamline things that is "mind boggling" The simple fact that Thai online 90 day reporting can not cope with a trip abroad and requires a trip in person to immigration to reset the clock is the ridiculous part. I'm sure the IT expert expats here must get a laugh out of how hopeless some things are done.

But I trade those minor 'inconvenience' for things that actually affect my day to day, and make me smile. No real RE taxes. Affordable Solar & BEVs. Puts a lot of extra jingle in the pocket every month that makes me forget any negatives about TH. The ability to live comfy on 20k THB a month is killing me Pleasing the wife, or taking the dog for a walk 2X a day ... hard to decide which is more of a burden on my life 😎 'Use me' - Bill Withers 1

And serves as their translator and bill payer and bank dealer and...and... Over the years, I've met a lot of self proclaimed "Thai experts" that couldn't find their way around their own block if their Thai wife didn't point the way for them. My apologies if I lumped you in undeserved. BTW, that's also why I don't hesitate to hire an agent when an agent can save me hours of frustration. 1

Imm, 3 types, reason visa ... buying car ... selling a house & land via POA (ex wife wasn't even at land office) Agent ... oh please. I don't pay people to do the simplest things for me.
