However, questions have arisen about whether this influx will generate the desired "holiday rush."

More like holiday revenue...

Exactly, it isn't the race that's the problem.  Thailand seems to be actively trying to get the cheapest tourists.

The problem isn't that they're Indian, the problem is the TYPE and quantity of Indians that are coming. I suggested to my higher class (lawyer) Indian friend in Bangkok that we take a trip to Pattaya - he refused because he didn't want to be around them!

TAT has been saying for a while that they want quality (high spending) tourists and now TAT is courting the lower spending masses of Asian subcontinent tourists. It is choosing quantity over quality. Good luck with that. I feel sorry for the Thai people.

Chinese tourist numbers are going down because the CCP government are making it harder to get passports or even just leave the country... scared everyone is going to flee and not come back. Indian tourists aren't great either as there is a gaping chasm between Indian cultural norms and Thai cultural norms... i.e. Indians love to crowd together, be noisy, just wander down the middle of roads in large groups of men, share a bottle of beer between 5 of them, or ask a bar girl if she's game to tag-team it with 8 mates together in an apartment etc. There was that infamous report recently of hundreds of Indian dudes descending onto the beach and taking it over plus leaving a mess afterwards. I haven't been to Pattaya for a while, but from all reports it sounds like it's a Indian dude sausage fest with a load of Russians too... yikes!

Thai's - as the dominant ethnicity of the host country - are in a league of their own.  They dislike everyone other than Thais.

Probably true, but then the dislike is at different levels! The Thais I know would certainly hold Swiss, Finns, Germans, .... hell even French! much higher than Indians.

What is the Half-Half scheme?

It's where the government subsidizes half the hotel/holiday costs in certain ways to encourage the locals to go on holiday and spend. How well it works is up for debate, as subsidies on many things ultimately fail unless you keep on doing it forever, which gets expensive... for example, diesel fuel is subsidized at the pumps, but no matter the price on international markets, it gets to a point where it can't be removed and resort back to market prices, as there would be a revolt and chaos. Anyone remember way back when it crept up to 45 baht a liter? The locals were about to have psychotic episode over it and it was sharply subsidized to get it back to acceptable levels again.

The Thai person has to sign up on the official app for it, not sure its name but the locals know, and then they qualify for it under certain situations which are in the app info... not for foreigners though, obviously. These apps are also infamous for not working properly due to the sheer number of Thais trying to sign up for the freebees... you know how that works.

There was supposed to be a big Indian night club a few years back at The Avenue Shopping Mall. Did that ever happen?

Total BS...the increase in call center tourists, who just "walk" but do not spend is never going to replace the Western and European spending power.  Don't believe me, take a look at the nice restaurants, bars and other places that cater to that group.  The Indians will need 10 more years of middle class development to spend the kind of cash that those business are use to.  Go to WS..., where most Indians end up in the evening.  They just walk and do not spend.

They are welcome in Pattaya. Best place for them in Thailand.

(Hopefully not Chiangmai😂)

Er..No we don't! The village Indians are in big gang and they know how to fight but you will notice they DONT START FIGHTS and are very polite compared to the resident farangs from the USA, the EU, the UK etc..

The Indians have built their own massive clubs on WS and elsewhere. The middle class Indians are big spenders but there are some racists who won't admit it.

The big ones are on Walking Street. There has been one at end near the Pier for decades.

An old racist cliche. You might as well just make fun of the new Digital Nomads who are surfacing in Pattaya on a very tight budget.

Why? That is really patronising. Hinduism and Buddhism share many beliefs and shared imagery. Also the Indian Cinema is great fun!

Quantity over quality never works out in the long run.

I agree but I’ll also take the quantity of hair on my head over the quality of it.

How true. Recently I sat in a Sports Bar on Soi Buakhow. Four Indian gentleman came in took up a table for 6. They ordered a bottle of water and 4 glasses of Ice. It lasted them the duration of a Premier League game. Final whistle they called for the bill paid and left leaving B120. Once it was Thai boys on motor bikes speeding around Pattaya now it’s Indian boys. Money Laundering? All around Thailand there are empty Indian restaurants???

And you wonder why some bars or GGs won't let them in, I've seen the same behaviour for years.

They think it's like it is back home and then of course is a rape a minute country. Biggest bunch of misogynists going, no respect from the vast majority of them.

Having said that there are some seriously wealthy people who come and spend big spondulies.

Years ago the baht buses were full of white people from America and Europe but they were white; currently the tourists are brown. So the buses are full of brown tourists. Are you sure that is not the issue for you? Unconscious racism? Indians are very jolly and their dancing is MAD!

Although their spending habits differ, their sheer numbers are substantial and noteworthy.

Sheer numbers... that's all TAT can boast about, how sad.

They've managed to turn two once reasonable resorts into hell holes.

It's not so much "choosing", as taking whatever it can get,😁 regardless !
