I would have run screaming into my house, locked every door and got the vacuum cleaner at the ready.

What's do you do with v/cleaner?

It looked a lot thicker the cleaners tube though.

Fearing that the large snake might slither into homes or attack pets, nearby residents and shopkeepers fled in all directions.

How does fleeing in all directions prevent the snake from entering homes and eating pets?

A lady of experience.

This is exactly why it looks like she was brave. Thais have for centuries lived with snakes, and many venomous ones here in Thailand. The elders, especially farmers, deal with these snakes all the time, and know which ones are dangerous. This snake, at that size, isn't that dangerous, especially if it's been handled before. That's why she went right to it , picked it up and put it back into the sack.

Venomous snakes aren't hard to recognize if you've lived around them all your life, as we have in Texas with the rattlers, moccasins and copperheads. and the corals are rarely seen and the most dangerous as far as venom, but it's not easy for them to bite you.

Pythons are very easy to identify, and although they bite, like most snakes, it's their constricting that can get people in trouble, especially the larger ones. She knew what she was doing, and if it was a cobra, she more then likely wouldn't have tried, as a cobra bite can kill, as it does here every year.

There are a lot of snakebites in Thailand yearly from venomous ones, but deaths are prevented much of the time because they know how to handle bites, seeing the have years of experience. Some snakes can kill very fast, and most bites here are from people who handle them a lot or those that are farming and reach into areas where an unseen snake is hiding.
