Creativity gone

Featured Replies

Remember that music degree I got? Yep, neither do I.

Life had other plans, but now that I'm back in Canada and can actually afford to splurge on myself, I'm finding the whole experience…whelmingly underwhelming. I went to a music store, ready to be inspired by the gleaming Korgs, Yamahas, and Rolands, but all I could think was this is going straight into the garage sale pile after 48 hours. I'm honestly not sure if living in Thailand made me dumber, or if technology has advanced so much that even orchestral scores are now just a few clicks away, thanks to tech and AI.

Maybe you were dumb before you traveled to Thailand.

Harder to get intellectually stimulated in Thailand than back home.

Maybe we are all getting dumber each year here.

Depends how dumb you were when you got here too, though.

Why is that?  No hobbies?

My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates.

I need to buy a new khaen.  My last one got eaten by woodworm in Burma...

I reckon I'm smarter, finding solutions to things i couldn't before, maybe that's partially a time thing

In most of our home countries you either need to be creative or rich to get a good woman.

In the past men needed to write sonnets if they didn't have the cash, now they learn the guitar, sing, paint or something similarly creative.

In Thailand it's much easier to find a good woman, so we lose the main motivation to being creative ..... or rich.

Alas, for some that penny never drops.

It has of course. But still this does not stop people from producing beautiful music, just think of Billy Eilish's "Birds of a Feather", a song so beautiful to put anything by the Beatles to shame.

That says more about the two of you than it does of Thailand.

It's never as good (or as bad) as I remember it.  That's just the way our brains work.

Except Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.  They never disappoint...
