Life is mostly guesses Fred like science, like the stock market. The future is unknown. A 15yo now has more knowledge than a 50yo in 1940.

No, a 15 year old CAN have more knowledge than 15 year olds of the past, because of the internet. People aren't any smarter now than back then. There are many, many young people that know very little about anything because of their personal desire not to expand their on knowledge.

Knowledge mainly comes from reading and teachers, and many stop reading after high school because their teachers stay in school, and then they just go by what other's say on the outside without evidence, believing what they say because they "sound right" You can see this when people go around asking the young crowd basic questions about the world. Most can't answer easy questions, and these are western kids.

Many go into school not liking school, and only pass courses because they don't want to be left behind. Then they're learning slows or stops. Some go to college and learn more, especially specific courses for a career, and still stop leaning after they pass, unless they're learning from on the job training. School only teaches you the basics, most of which, unless you're passionate about a certain subject, you forget. besides how to read and write your language.

Yes if Hitler had a better family he might not have ended up a mass muderer but his genes could still make him a bad person. There is a gene called the warrior gene and another gene linked to bad behaviour.

It's still mostly environment that teaches a person how to relate to others.

Then there's the people filling their heads with nonsense from reading self help books, the bible, and other fantasy materials and thinking they have knowledge.

More knowledge, but less chance of owning his own home.

I do own my home, and did in the states. And when I go back, I'll own another. You come in and make ignorant statements all the time, going by assumptions. I would think you would know better at early 70's. What do you own now? I have a cd and fishing tackle collection that's likely worth more than your home.

But you're not a 15yo ....... I think you lost the plot (again).

As for owning stuff ..........

"it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God"

Looks like I'm going, and you're not!

Or as Papa Roach says .....

"There's no money, there's no possessions, only obsession, I don't need that s***"

Oh no, Fred has gone into a "thumbs down" voting frenzy.

But being the "supposed adult" here, I won't return the down votes.

And then there are supposed adults, going on an online forum and assuming thery know anything about people they've never met, who are likely much better off mentally and physically than they are, and who have taken care of their families and not let them fall by the wayside. I'm betting what I knew 30 years ago you'll never understand.

Environment is people and experiences ie not books.

Books are brain food but limited unless the info stands the test of time. Some stoic stuff has. Carnegie books have too.

Not if you dismiss God as a fantasy. I like possessions, just like most others, knowing full well I can't take anything with me when I go to heaven but memories. My family will get my possessions, to enjoy them if they like. I love music, movies, fishing and hunting, and for those things you need possessions.

I find it interesting that of all the guys that I know that have gotten together with bar girls, only one freely admits it. When someone asks where did you meet your wife, he says oh she was working in a bar and I picked her up and fell in love with her. I really admire him for that.

I know other guys that make up all kinds of stories about the university degrees and all kinds of crazy fake background, but you can smell nonsense when you hear it

I met my wife through an agency, we never married until we had been together for five years. She has not admitted to having university degrees although there are a few trophies in the cabinet. I don't think there are universities up country outside of the big cities, but plenty of colleges, I do know for a fact that she was in fulltime education up until she was 23, so is there any difference to university degree's and college degree's if you live upcountry?

Like another here said, it's obvious you aren't a reader. Think about that statement. Books are indeed brain food, and your brain needs nourishment to grow, as most only use a small percentage of it. Some less than others. Again, there's only a few ways to learn after a teacher's teachings in school. Hiring other teachers or reading . Many people on the outside of this aren't good sources.

But I am a reader. I also look at Youtube summaries of books.

I've probably read lots of good books you never have.

If you are referring to the allegedly typical Pattaya sex worker - tattooed, dark skinned, snub nosed, avaricious and uneducated farm girl , I agree the prospects don't augur that well. On the other hand I have known unions developed from the seediest quarters which have worked out.Let's face it the foreign clientele in Pattaya and other sex resorts is also usually uneducated and short on money/class and almost always some combination of middle aged/ugly/fat. So I would suggest it is often a union of equals.

There are of course courtesan/models/pretties in Bangkok and elsewhere who have a commercial view of their love life. But they would have no interest in some fat old sex tourist with zero sophistication and a dubious bank balance.

Well said.

I discssed your second paragraph with my son's Thai wife (educated, teacher, balanced, good communicator.

She thouht about it and then called her sister, a Thai bank manager.

Their conclusion; most pretties would be looking for a mid 20s to mid 30s wealthy handsome well built young Thai man, with house and car(s) and there's plenty of them.

Then you should understand the importance of books, why I read them, why they are the best sources of information, and that you go stale if you stop reading, only going by word of mouth, other's opinions, which most of the time aren't valid sources of the truth.

Yeah, but you're not reading important stuff like the bible, or how to spot a narcissist ........

And if you were a true reader with vast knowledge from many self help books, you'd be able to post "But I am a reader" using a minimum of 200 words.

Just now, BritManToo said:

I can spot a narcissist a mile, or kilo away. Easy to see when a lot of your education comes from books on psychology. I already read the Bible a few times. You don't believe in God, so why bother replying about him?

And I have the same. Most of my reading involves psychology and the rest is about fishing, hunting and fiction and real life stories.

Britman lives day by day and enjoys life. Dale Carnegie wrote about this in How to Stop Worrying and Start Living a 100 years ago. Tolle writes about it in The Power of Now and A New Earth. So even though he never read these books he is following 50% of their ideas.

You have said many times that reading isn't important. Why make that statement if you believed otherwise? Many people read fiction, and although this does make you think, it doesn't add knowledge about certain subjects like books based on evidence.

I prefer Harem novels (aka INCEL fantasy)!

You are misquoting me. Actions are more important than reading books or thoughts or ideas. If you want to climb a mountain go do it. Don't think about it or read about it.

If you wanted a romantic relationship based on love, loyalty, care and romance, that's what you strive for. What anyone reads is an influence, just like many women who watch soap operas and think life is like that.

But knowledge is less useful than actions or imagination.

At 68yo what knowledge do you need. You will be dead in 20 years. Better to take action.

I'm just repeating what you've said. You dismiss books over personal experience, which can be limited. Reading bolsters your knowledge on any subject. I don't dismiss experience, as I had to work out to get stronger, but learning how to helped along the way. I learned how to fish from my dad, but books taught me much more afterwards. I never go to hunt with my dad. He stopped when I started. He only shot a couple of deer, but I've shot over 100, many of which I took by learning their habits from reading up on them, and some by personal experience. Reading gives you more knowledge on anything. If you just go by experience it takes longer to have the same amount of knowledge. Shortcuts help in any endeavor.

Bit optimistic, at 70 I'm thinking maybe another four years.

The more knowledge the better you accomplish things. And how do you know how long I , or you, will live? You can only take action as fast as life allows you to go. Some things can't be forced. especially if you want the best solution.
