Authorities in Phuket have uncovered regulatory breaches at several massage establishments in Thalang District during a coordinated inspection aimed at enforcing health and safety standards in wellness businesses.

Under the directive of Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat and with the involvement of senior provincial officials including Deputy Governor Col. Adul Chuthong, Provincial Clerk Theerapong Chuaychu, and Thalang District Chief Siwatch Rawangkul, a joint task force conducted inspections at seven massage shops in Moo 1 and Moo 4, Thepkrasattri Subdistrict, on 9 July.

The inspection team included officers from the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, the Office of Social Development and Human Security, local public health officials, administrative volunteers, village heads, assistant village heads, subdistrict security officers and civil defence volunteers.

Key findings from the operation included:

• Three shops were found to be operating without a licenceto provide health massage services. Officials recorded the violations and instructed the shop owners to pay fines and begin the process of obtaining proper authorisation from the provincial public health office.

• One shop, while possessing a valid licence, was found to be in breach of its conditions by employing massage therapists who did not hold certified documentation as recognised health massage practitioners. Authorities have documented the infraction and recommended that the relevant licensing body temporarily suspend the establishment’s permit until corrective measures are implemented.

The operation forms part of an ongoing campaign to regulate the wellness industry in Phuket and ensure all establishments comply with public health and legal standards, protecting both workers and clients.
