Vietnam thought it had a deal on its US tariff rate. Then Trump stepped in.

Vietnam thought it had a preliminary deal with the U.S. to lower its tariff level substantially. Then, at the last minute, President Donald Trump raised the rate.

As a result, the Vietnamese government still has not formally accepted a key part of the agreement the president touted on social media last week, despite Trump’s claim in the post that the terms had been agreed to by Vietnam’s leader, Tô Lâm, according to four people familiar with the discussions and granted anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. And neither side has released documentation of those terms, raising questions about whether they did, in fact, reach an agreement, as the White House labors to prove it is making headway in its trade negotiations with dozens of major partners.

Typical leftist slant. It's a good thing President Trump did step in. The negotiators were going to let Vietnam get away with a measly 11% tariff. President Trump bumped it up to 20% and maybe even that's too generous. The Vietnamese are still truckling to China even though China is stealing its islands and its share of the sea. Good work, Mr. President!

A typical MAGA response when they have no idea what they are talking about, or even what the supposed details of the agreement were all about.

Is that the best that you have to offer?

What a brilliant plan to increase the cost of Vietnamese imports to the USA. The costs that the ordinary US citizens have to pay. It doesn't matter to Trump as he is living free at the US taxpayers expense anyway.

Pointless Trump bashing. You think he should pay rent for staying at the White House?

Of course. The same as he charges the secret service when they have to stay at one of his golf courses every 3 or 4 days. Seems a fair quid pro quo ☺️

You think the secret service doesn't pay rent to some business entity when it accompanies officials on trips who don't own hotels?

Separately, the Trump family has recently announced development projects in Vietnam.

The country's government approved a plan by the Trump Organization and local business Kinh Bac City Development to invest $1.5bn in hotels, golf courses and luxury real estate.

The Trump Organization is also scouting for locations to build a Trump Tower in Ho Chi Minh City.

Well, that only goes to show that President Trump isn't swayed by his own personal interests. If, instead, that was the case, why would he raise the tariffs that were previously agreed to and anger the Vietnamese and endanger his business deal?

And do you think that he should be slashing budgets, healthcare etc at the same time as taxing US citizens more and more?

Stop trying to deflect. You raised the issue of President Trump not paying for services and amenities previous presidents haven't paid for either.

Are those business other owners POTUS? Being POTUS comes with a fiduciary responsibility to avoid even the impression of grift.

Trump IS the U.S.

They didn't get the memo.

Fax it to them.

Or it may suggest that his projects in Vietnam are encountering some difficulties...

The hivemind don't know what to do about Trump being his own man. They are so used to loving money motivated immoral leaders just looking to feather their own and their families nest that they are dumbstruck when an honest patriot comes along and works for Americans interest.

Hilarious to see their silly reactions and venting.

How strange.

You claim at least 2 posters including me,  are deflecting the post. Perhaps we are correct, and it is you who is frying to deflect the post

Then try offering some actual reasoning and logic instead of conducting a poll.

Who is conducting a poll?

I am simply responding to your posts as other posters are doing also.

Do you have a problem when people respond to your posts?

The problem isn't that you and others responded. You just didn't engage in a rebuttal of my reasoning but went off on a tangent. I just pointed out the irrelevance of your comment.

So everybody else is wrong and only you are right. Is that your reasoning?

Once again, you're doing polling.

Absolutely - they (bullies) always go for the easy targets!

Mind you, one would have thought that the US would have been a bit more circumspect when it came to Vietnam...
