This is the problem with having humans do this simple work.  Lack of experience, lack of knowledge.

 

The german passport officer should have cancelled your old passport, knowing full well that all visas in it are valid until expiry date.  It just should not be used for travel.

 

You should have entered on your new passport, showing the old passport with it's visa intact and valid.

 

Your mistake, showing the new passport later, and also more importantly, the german officer for not cancelling your old passport with a stamp/cut/hole or whatever.

 

Hope AI takes over these jobs soon, and we will have no more silly mistakes like this one!
