I've poked around related threads here but have found conflicting info on this...

I'm a US citizen with a Thai wife heading back to Thailand a month from now. I've got over 400K baht, but it's still in my US account and it's only been over the 400K equivalent line for about a month. Does anyone know if this will get me the initial Non-Imm O visa? The application will go through New York embassy.

(I know for sure I'll need 400K seasoning for 2 months in my Thai bank account to get the year extension. I did that last year but when applying for the initial visa I already had the 400K in my Thai account for 2 months, which is why I'm not sure if my current situation will cut it.)

If I can't get the Non-Imm O before heading back then I'll arrive on the 60 day visa exempt and transfer the funds over before transitioning to the marriage visa once I'm there. But if I can get the marriage visa now, might as well. But I don't want to spend the money and time on that that if it's going to be denied.

Thanks

I believe to get a Non-O from the US for visiting Thai family does not require any fund. The visa is valid for three months of stay and can be extended by another two months of stay inside Thailand.

Every Thai embasy in the world is now on the e-visa system, and they all require proof of funds for a non-O visa based on marriage.

I believe most of the Thai embassies/consulates in the US only require your balance to be at the required amount for the most recent bank statement, even if they require multiple months of statements.

OK, I was wrong. Still it is better than moving money to a Thai bank and most US citizens have at least equivalent of 400K baht in a HYSA earning t least 4%

It's valid for 90 days, not 3 months. There's a difference.

You should have no issue getting the initial 90 day Non-O visa online thru the eVisa website showing proof of funds (400K baht or the equivalent) in an account for only a month. They usually request 3 months of bank statements BUT not 3 months where the balance is over 400K 🙂

If you can't get it there, as you said, worst case you'll come in free stamp, transfer the funds over and go thru the Non-O process in country at the immigration office
