Bird not in a cage

Has anyone ever owned a bird?

Aren't birds supposed to be in cages or they fly away?

There's a woman down the street. She keeps this bird, but it just roams freely. No cage.

Most of time, when I walk by the shop, the bird is walking around the shop, usually near it's owner.

Sometimes I've seen the bird on the woman's shoulder or arm.

The shop is open and the bird is free to fly away, but doesn't.

So birds are smart enough to know who their owners are like cats and dogs?

So why do people back home keep them in cages?

Did she train it?

It is generally a slow process, starting with the bird being caged, then being confined within the house before eventually being free to roam outside. No guarantee though that it won't fly away forever at some point. I suspect the bird in the posting did the reverse, came from outside, and stayed having found a friendly food source.

  • We have a cockatiel that roams free in the house.

  • Most people own/have owned birds. Heck, I just bought a bird part and swallowed it, will be its owner until it gets deposited in the commode.   Not if they’re stored in a freezer or choppe

  • Many birds are very intelligent and loyal, just like most animals that are treated well. They'll stay where they know it's home.

I have myna birds that keep coming on my balcony and chirping for food and of course cra ping, i reckon they confuse my balcony with the annoying feeder, so there's a good chance if you had a bird in the condo and it flew outside it may not find it's way back

I live in a house with a garden, not a condo with a balcony.

Sometimes the wings are clipped and they can't fly - - my wife had a little cockatoo and it bonded with her - - she would fly around the house - it took a while but she bonded with me too and it was amazing how smart she was,,, she would actually train me to do things the way my wife did, She liked being held near the window but if I held her at the wrong height she would peck wildly at my hand until I moved it to the right spot and then she would give me a soft kiss...
