I know several foreign language teachers in Thailand, and they’re all decent people just trying to make a living; a few are in monogamous relationships with Thai women who are not bargirls.

Lovely. So they offer them the value proposition of being with a guy who's lifelong "career" will be teaching English to kids making little money. He might be young and handsome now, but wait till he's in his 40's and alcoholic and you can barely take care of your kids because there's never any money around (if he'll even remain around by then). Just wasting their time. (actual example of a couple I know - guy is alcoholic, wife is miserable)

Kinda funny with the downvotes. I guess some of you are language teachers? :cheesy:

Thanks. I remember this well. I was very impressed by the fine way with which the US soldiers conducted themselves in Thailand back then.

As for being a former soldier what on earth does that have to do with anything

I'll bet he claimed, loudly, to be an ex Navy Seal. Appears to be where most of Pattaya’s finest US  expat soldiers served

An American who visits Thailand, I say throw the damned book as this loser. Jail or ban him.  Stop catering to these idiots.

Dude, the guy is not an Ex American Soldier, he is Brit, listen to that accent...5555.

He may have lived in the UK for 10's of years and "adopted" a UK accent to fit in!

Well that’s pretty cynical -- the teachers I know are in their 40s, and they seem to be doing fine, and their girlfriends or wives are pretty happy. I know that the scoop at least in this forum is that most white people in Thailand are drunks and losers, but that’s actually not the case.

Special operations and ex general.

You can tell he is American armed forces. Took on someone half his size and weaponed up.
What a coward.

If I had of been there there would have only been three hits in it.

Me hitting him, him hitting the ground and the ambulance hitting 100.

Spitting on thai women.

More like you running down the street screaming after he bitch slapped you

James reportedly returned to the scene armed with a metal rod and a sharp object, appearing intent on further violence. The bar’s security staff, trained for such scenarios, quickly intervened, disarmed him and detained him until officers from Pattaya City Police Station arrived.

Salute to the Thai man of goon outlook.

He instantly proved  he is tougher and more professional than that  peabrain.

I bet  that idiot must have behaved better if he saw that guard first.

There are plenty more fish in the Ocean. Move on and find another, if a hooker says no.   It's true he doesn't sound like a yank and whoever he was talking to on the phone obviously had trouble understanding his appalling accent as he had to keep repeating himself before the security subdued him from behind and everyone out of their misery including the person at the other end of his phone call.

he allegedly knocked over a pot of incense, spat at two female employees and kicked over a menu board outside the venue before walking away.

The real low life, first world trash.

A degree isn't necessary to teach English, as my time was spent talking to kids in camps and personal classes, so the children would learn how to pronounce words. This is what a native speaker does

So you have been living here for years, surrounded by native speakers but haven’t picked up much at all.
So how are your students you were “teaching”?
All fluent now?

Exactly.  Some ex-soldiers think that they are special because of their choice to enter the armed forces and that they, therefore, deserve unquestioned respect..."I'm a vet!".

Dude, the guy is not an Ex American Soldier, he is Brit, listen to that accent...5555.

Where did I say that he is an American?

From the OP...

"A former U.S. soldier and language teacher, identified only as “Mr. James” ... According to eyewitnesses, the American national became enraged..."

Many Thai children can write down English but don't know what the words mean. This I see all the time in my daughter's school.

Why don’t you send her to a better school?

Don't defend these fake teachers in Thailand.

Drinkers.

Getting in fights.

Last month there was a story of a kid drinking and driving.  another fake teacher.

They are super creepy people.

Some without degrees

Many broke

Almost all have no clue about how to teach.

Back in 2015 when a fake teacher told me he liked them young, paid to get them young, drank, loved to drink and drive, got high, and about 10 of his fake "teachers" all seemed at home......well, that was enough for me.

Anyone can do that fake job.

This is just one more example of the morals these clowns have.

It just feels dirty thinking about those scum.

I will troll them and their fanboys and defenders forever.

I wouldn't put all the teachers in Thailand in the same boat, as most of the private school pay better and have real requirements.

The ones working for the government well.... Teachers have had a bad image for decades, even in the 90's it was a considered a job any English speaker could get, which mostly anyone that had no real skills or degree would gravity too to be able to stay in Thailand.  Quit a few back packers used to do this.

Don't worry @Quentin Zen, we're all aware of your obsessive dislike of, and expansive stereotyping of  foreign teachers in Thailand!

What we aren't aware of, of course, is what drives it - perhaps you couldn't hack it?

LOL I think it is jealousy.  He tried to be a teacher and no school would hire him.

The fact that he used to be a teacher is about as important as his I was a US soldier.

Who cares.  The point is that he is not a tourist has obviously lived here awhile.

We can chalk it up to the fact that he needs help, or he went out and had a little too much, possibly had a recent personal issue, and had too much to drink.

This is simply going to be a WAI and baht situation unless he has done this before.

Update, he is a Brit, not American.

Yes, you can hear him ramble incoherently at the start of the video in broken Thai, in what sounds like a Yorkshire accent, before he's taken down:
I LEN <Deleted> BASEBALL ? HUA KHUN..KHUN JUH THEE NAI ...I MEE VIDEO KHAWNG RUSSIA...

I don't know how many times I have to say this.... Foreign language teachers are almost ALWAYS up to no good.   This one appears TYPICAL.  Drinker, goes after women in a bar, gets in a fight......

How anyone could pay money to let these criminals spend time with their kids is beyond me.

Soon the International fanboys will come out and say that's not possible there......oh it is.

There, the wide paintbrush. You must be so much fun on your own with no one being of high enough standard drinking cool aid. Pathetic.  First you do not know this man or the situation all you have is Thai women's version of events (and they never lie). Some people just enjoy teaching.

He only gave authorities basic details stating he was formerly in the US military and had worked as a language teacher.

Within a few seconds of listening to the video it's obvious that he was giving fake details about his nationality (though quite plausible he was telling the truth about working as a teacher).

His accent screams Fred Elliott from Coronation Street. It's about as American as barm cakes and Yorkshire pudding at a rest stop on the M62. The only thing that's not clear is what side of the Pennines he's from.

once again, the so called native teachers are mainly low class Americans with no education skills they do not know gramatica have a hillbilly vocabularium don't know how to conjugate to decline. They just speak some kind of English. Are they to blame , of course not. It is the Thai education system that allows this. And than you attire scumbags as this soldier. When you pay peanuts you get monkeys

Top marks to the security staff.

65 year old teacher behaving like that.

Shame on you , you should act your age, not your shoe size. :bah:

I will, when we move back home

Picked up much what? Thai? I know some Thai, but not interested in knowing more as we'll be leaving. Anytime I can't get something across to a local I use my phone. Works well. The students you teach pick up a little, but the only way they'll learn is having a good English teacher at their schools, which many don't.

I wouldn't place too much weight on the former American soldier bit.

Given the size of the US military, a lot of American males will have been in it.

He does seem to be a plonker though doesn't he?

Security chaps were effective.

Maybe a little to be concerned with. As with anyone who served in the military, they are trained to kill.

Yes, but that means nothing unless they can do what's needed when the time comes. Anyone can take martial arts and freeze when a fight happens. Having a killer instinct is what matters. Taking a life isn't as easy as it sounds if you're a normal person. It is easy for a sociopath that's been raised with no respect for life itself.
