Given the daily crowds on the BTS, the notion of police officers drawing & using their weapons to protect the innocent is ludicrous.

Kill one criminal and 20 innocents in the process ...

Who's talking about that? Only you.

Maybe they are simply going to work.

Doubt BTS has asked them to ride as a deterrent because that would assume they are riding with their weapons!

They carry them everywhere else while on-duty, busy streets etc... What difference does it make on the BTS ?   Are the Police permitted to enter shopping malls with their guns when on duty ?

No, I didn't.   Why would an on-duty RTP police officer be using the BTS?  Don't be ridiculous.

Why not, if he is an officer on foot patrol, going from one area to another easily...?  🤔

BTS hasn't thought about this yet. They will change the rule soon. It's a no-brainer.

If BTS decides to be stupid and to ban policemen from the BTS, I expect that an audit of their accounts will uncover some interesting information. BTS knows this. Every corporation has skeletons in its cupboards ... and what about the bribes that the BTS has paid over the years to do business? How embarrassing if they were uncovered!

I do believe that officers have to hand in their firearm at the police station when going off duty. There is a bloke there that does that job.

Well, that's what happens at our lads area...🤗

To be honest, I've never seen any uninformed police officer riding the BTS, MRT, or Airport Link for either official or personal travel, other than the very infrequent K9 explosives detection patrols - which makes this second-hand story sound rather dubious to me.

Very stupid.  Hell yes they should be allowed to carry guns.

Be better if locked up at police station.

Could save lives should they get drunk or use Yaba, then shoot the wife because dinner not ready or even  other people.

Know this sort of think only happens half a dozen times a year. Hard one, leave a police station could get taken and sold.

Where I am, I've never seen a police officer, period.....😂

Oh, except our lad, a Sergeant Major.......😋

Because of the poor marksmanship?

Cost of ammo here, is said to be higher than in US.

So honest cops living solely on their salary may not afford to practice enough?

It's a little off topic but you're correct.

Most regular cops here rarely get to practice at a range because of cost.

I think any cop is trained in using a weapon..........🤭

Certainly my experience as a Thai Tourist Police Volunteer based in Chiang Rai.

We had to attend weapons (hand gun) training but after explaining that UK Forensic Scientists do not carry weapons, I was allowed just to watch - a boring experience!

The criminal would probably be unlucky and hit by a ricochet

1.  Are there any "foot-patrol officers" pounding the beat in Bangkok?

2.  If those "foot-patrol officers" did start to use the BTS (they, very obviously, do not) they would not be "foot-patrol officers".

3. Why would "foot-patrol officers" have areas so expansive that they needed the use of the BTS that they cannot access?

Police officers are not banned from the private company, i.e. not a state enterprise, the BTS.

You should ask them, not me, as I have no idea how the BiB operates in BKK.......🤗

My questions were rhetorical, apart from occasional very limited walks through certain areas as a performance they do not exist.

Then I am surprised, but perhaps are.......:ninja:.....so as not to frighten the farangy's, eh...😋

This is quite important since there is widespread availibility of guns and uniforms - and impersonators ..

There have been a lot of crimes committed by cosplay criminals wearing fake police uniforms.  The BTS is right to demand their firearms licenses, although cops don't need a carry license.

The husband of the missus' friend is a cop in Koh Samui and he once had an embarrassing experience being denied boarding a Bkk Airway flight back to Samui from Bkk because he didn't have the original of his gun license.  He had to get someone to send it to him by courier and cool his heels in Bkk until it arrived.  Again totally right in my opinion.  With the original he was able to check his gun in under the proper procedure where they check it in at a special location to make sure it is unloaded and you pick it up in the same sort of way at the other end.  I know non-cops who have carried their legal firearms on domestic flights the same way and even taken their guns to Laos to compete in a shooting match but in that case all the Thai group's guns were transported together in a truck.  Met an Aussie once who had legally imported his pistol and ammo from Australia to compete in a match in Thailand and been issued a temporary Thai firearms license, all organised by the the Thai shooting association affiliated with the Sports Ministry.  There is a right way and a wrong way to travel with firearms.

OTOH, how are they supposed to get from home to work?

How do police officers in Sweden, Australia, Canada, Japan et al manage to do it?

No one has  asked whether or not the police officer was  sober.

How many time shave we seen the stories where the cop shoots up a bar or restaurant because he is annoyed or angry?

If they can't be trusted to ride the BTS with their weapons they shouldn't be allowed to have them anywhere.  Either they have been trained and are proficient and have the right mentality to know when to use them - or they aren't.  And I'm not saying they all are but what difference is it in a crowded mall, street or train.

As for the guy who thinks they should conceal them please, find a safe space and stay there.  The real world must frighten you every day.
