Two questions:

1) The bank only applies verification of the phone number and the name it corresponds to if you use the bank's app, right?

2) If the bank's app is blocked until the name is verified and confirmed, the ATM can be used normally, right?

Thanks everyone.

With Bangkok Bank I just learned the following. On July 9 the Bank sent me a message that the Mobile Banking service will be blocked on July 15 since the owners name of the SIM did not match the name in the Bank.

I was very surprised since I had been to the Bank several months ago to let them check that the phone number belonged to me and they then told me that everything was OK.

Now Bangkok Bank explained that they had been instructed to inspect the owner of the SIM harder and in my case they had found that the Passport No I had shown DTAC some 15 years ago did not correspond with my present Passport No. that the Bank had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swedish Passports are only valid for 5 years and next time I renew my passport I don't only have to show it to the bank (which is natural) but I will first have to go to DTAC and ask them to update their info about me.

So if same name and surname, DOB, but the SIM is under the old passport, the mobile banking can be suspended, right?

I have the app, but never use it to transfer any money, just to check when salary is coming in, as sometimes there is no ATM around me for miles.

So if uninstall the app, there will be no issue with the phone number?

I have Krungsri Bank and I just had to bring a confirming letter from the sim card company (DTAC\TRUE) verifying my name PP# and phone number to get my app access turned on after 2 days. The atmosphere still worked fine but no app access.

Posted

But is enough that the name, surname and DOB are the same or need to be also same passport number. I already updated the new passport with the bank but not with the SIM provider.

Krungthai bank are being extremely inefficient with this. I've been to AIS twice to have them update my registered account name, first was from english to Thai as the bank used my pink ID card to open my account. Ais made the update BUT incorrectly input my name in Thai, so no match.  Went back and got them to correct their error, so they got me to update my profile using the app, which involved taking a photo of my id card and a selfie. My sim card registered name now matches my Krungthai bank account name perfectly (pink ID card # & name in Thai), but Krungthai are still saying the details don't match. Even after visiting my local branch and showing them that the details do match, I continue to receive a message in the app stating that they don't. Fortunately this account is only used to receive my annual tax refund.

Time to write a "new passport number" guide.

Where to go first? Immigration?

And then...

Mobile operator

Banks

...

(will get a new one next month)

And then wait for 90 day online report to work 🫣

It's so essential to know where you gave your passport number. Recently got an SMS from TOPS about claiming some discount. Login failed for wrong passport number.

Couldn't even remember in which decade I gave them the number 😁

One reason I never signed up as a member with any of those companies.
And then I think of Villa Market, HomePro, Whatsadu, Lotus, BigC, etc, etc.

Yeah, all our store memberships use Madam's ID number, it's only when we need to use points or whatever that I need to take her, other times she stays home.

I'm pretty sure that apart from immigration it's only the banks and the phone people that have my PP number. Anyone else who asks for ID gets my pink card.

I agree 100% and that only applies to BigC, they have her details, only the problem is in most cases I have to go shopping alone, and I am ordered by her what all to take, much to the irritation of my self.

I'm glad I'm not the only one :whistling:

We make a list and she phones to "remind" me to get things she forgot to put on the list. She usually times these calls so I'm at the opposite end of the store from the items in question of course.

Coincidence? Ya think?

Better check my phone for GPS trackers.

I am allowed some leeway to get snacks etc. 🙂

Love her to bits!! 😛

I got a new passport a few months ago, went to immigration to transfer the stamps.

With a retirement extension looming i went to the bank to change passport number also ( figured it might feature on the 12 month extension or the annual bank letter ) .

They gave me a new bank book and expired the old one which only had a couple of transactions in it.

Rolled up at immigration with 3 bank books and a bunch of photocopies expecting them to be annoyed but I swear they were happy, as if they enjoy all the paperwork !! 😀

Good advice about the mobile operator though, don’t see any where on the True iService app so will give them a visit .

For me, with my new passport number I went to update with airlines, immigration, banks, cell provider, drivers license.

Pink card number on mine 🙂

I know some transport offices won't use it because of the wording on the back, but ours seemed happy.

@KhunBENQ you read my post about a new passport etc on the EV forum. Don't you believe me?

I always used to use my pink card, but now when booking into a hotel they do want my passport.

Because we have a lovely immigration at Kalasin and my 1 year extension is due in September  and my passport runs out during my next extension, they advised me to get a new passport before I do my September extension, which I did.

So using my new passport at the hotel triggered my Kbank app and card to be disabled.

Just from my recent experience, True will give you a new SIM (can use the old phone number) linked to your new passport. I also got a printout from True showing my new passport number and phone number that my bank wanted.

I am with Bangkok Bank. My SIM card is registered with my old passport number that expired eight years ago and the bank has my current passport number. I have had no issues with the bank app. All the information on SIM cards and bank apps I have read say the names must be identical. No mention of passport or ID numbers matching. The bank has the numbers of my last 5 passports on record.

My bank didn’t require anything from True, they already had my current phone number and were only interested in my new passport.

Why would True want to change my sim yet retain the same number ?, i use an eSIM, seems like they are making work for themselves ?

But then again, i was surprised when the bank changed my bank book for the passport number change ?

But, i also found out that the bank uses a phone number for your account but you can have a different number linked to your bank card ! for a few years I was using the Lazada 1 year sims and changing the number at the ATM thinking it would change the number linked to my account also but no !

Something cropped up and i had to visit my bank branch to change the number linked to my account to my current number, strangely though they asked for no verification i only told them the number !!

Both the bank system and mobile operator seem to place confusing systems in place but neither increase security?

Maybe I can convince them for next DL extension.

Should I care to ask DLT about new passport number?

How did it work with the drivers license at DLT?

Just go and show old/new and they print a new license card?

Last time I did that at Pattaya they wanted copies and I think from memory I also needed a COR - but not sure on that.

I also had to pay 50 baht a licence as they had to take new pictures.......this was some years ago.

Don’t forget you also

1. Need to bring your old cancelled passport along as well.

2. Verify your registration by dialing *161# in AIS. Not sure about True.

Only if you see the need to produce your Thai DL as further evidence of your bona fides, such as the tome of support paperwork that banks or finance companies may need for you to secure or cosign a loan or financing.

Be aware that if you are not, or no longer, on a Non-O or other 'long-term' non-immigrant visa, be aware that the bank can suspend your account. This despite it being an account of longstanding from when the account opening rules were far less strict.

I was told by AIS you could update your passport information on the app.
