My phonebills still comes from DTAC.

Dtac told me my 15 years old SIM card registration did not show the owner's name or my birthdate. It was registered with my old passport which expired 10 years ago.

Dtac was kind enough to show me the last 4 digits of my old passport number. Glad I found the old passport at home.

After updating the registration, I was given a receipt to show the banks to reactivate the apps.

Long lines at the banks and the phone company....

True shops have dedicated counters for DTAC.

The DTAC shops still exist.

Numbers and promotions from DTAC didn't change.

True has to continue this for 3 years.  What will happen after 3 years, nobody knows.  DTAC numbers may not automatically become True numbers,  but you can port them  (and get a True promotion which costs twice as much as a DTAC one)

Be aware that if you are not, or no longer, on a Non-O or other 'long-term' non-immigrant visa,

Thanks but not in my case.

Giving up long term and probably leaving Thailand is a doomsday scenario for me.

Would of course empty the accounts.

Yes, but making sure you keep both the mobile service and bank updated on any passport changes is still important.

When I was sorting out some banking stuff earlier this year, the staff at the branch I was dealing with noticed the disparity in registered passport number on my file. That was a benign change that I had made about five years earlier for immigration purposes only. This was back when apps and mule accounts were unheard of. Luckily, although it wasn't my 'home' branch, they were able to update it for me on their systems, but they still recommended that if I had the opportunity, I should reconfirm it with visit to that home branch.

"True Corporation finalized the merger with Total Access Communication (DTAC) on March 1, 2023, creating the largest mobile network operator in Thailand. The new company is named True Corporation Public Company Limited. This merger was the result of an agreement initially announced on November 22, 2021, and faced some regulatory and legal hurdles before being finalized."

We all know this.

And those of us who use NI (natural intelligence) also know that the regulator agreed to this merger under the condition that DTAC is treated as a separate entity for 3 years. That's what I tried to say.

What will happen after those 3 years, is not public knowledge. Ask Mr Brekke.

The three times I had to update or confirm my information (work address, phone number, and email), I always used a bank branch somewhere in the Kingdom.

My experience also. However, I was simply emphasizing the advice I was given to me by bank staff on the most recent updating effort. This was after the rules on who qualifies for an account gained broader enforcement.

YMMV

Does anyone know how the bank knows that your name in their records does not match the name associated with a number/account at a mobile service provider?

Did the banks request detailed information from MSP's, compare that and then issue warnings/advisories?

But is enough that the name, surname and DOB are the same or need to be also same passport number. I already updated the new passport with the bank but not with the SIM provider.

It's the last 4 digits of your passport number that are the critical ones for your SIM provider. So, except in the million-to-one case of the last 4 digits of your new passport number being identical to those for your previous passport, you do need to update your SIM registration.

In my case it must come from Immigration.

Checked into a hotel for a night at Nong Khai and they wanted my passport not my pink card. Gave them my new passport that I just received the week before. This was on Friday. Went to charge my EV using my bank app and it was blocked.

So I think the hotel notifing Imm of a Falang staying there triggered it.

I haven't any trouble with my seasoning account but haven't done anything yet that Imm would be aware of.

Seems like Imm are becoming the hub of modernising IT systems (but they still can't handle 90 day reports by email.)

In the case of the mobile operator and bank which way round doesn't strike me as being crucial. The important thing IMHO is that you don't leave it too long between them!

I was told in Pattaya TRUE shops do not service Dtac numbers, which is strange since there are the same company.

there is only one shop which provides Dtac services in Pattaya ,located  on the third floor of Central Pattaya Beach, opposite the TRUE shop on the same floor.

In Bangkok,  the big ones do (they have a DTAC counter), the small ones don't (they may have the old small DTAC shop next door)

I used the same Dtac phone number at Bangkok Bank, SCB and KrungThai.

I had to visit Dtac office to undate my phone record to reactivate SCB and Krungthai bank apps which was locked.

Some how my Bangkok bank app was not locked, it is still working.

You're both wrong, as the last four "digits" of a passport "number" can include letters as well.

Then it wouldn't be a number.

A number is a number.

BTW not all countries include letters.

Don’t forget you also

1. Need to bring your old cancelled passport along as well.

2. Verify your registration by dialing *161# in AIS. Not sure about True.

*153# for True (only first 5 chars will be shown)
