Rule #67599 farang handbook states:

Live as far away from Thai family as possible

Exactly what it says.... I travel... I am a tight arse when I do it... Hence living in Isaan

Boring af, poverty everywhere, dusty, food can be ok but also nasty, drug and alcohol problems, need transport for dangerous roads, schools are crap, hot af

It's for people that can't hack the city tbh. Wives, gf from region.

Certainly don't do your kid any favors by keeping them in Issan schools

It's almost ok to live in KK or ubon but after that seems you're just a waster on some desolate dusty island desert.

No Bangkok beauties, no subway, no 24/7 food.

When it's all said and done and you add in the car living up country is probably more expensive than moving in Bangkok

7/11 is 24 hours. Cute girls in the cities.

GF has started talking about moving back home to Yang Talat once the daughter finishes school in a few years.

I've never been, and don't know much about it apart from the fact it's about an hour from Khon Kaen city. Indeed I've never visited any part of Isaan.  I will have to make a visit soon I suppose.

I don't think I would ever mover there. Pretty sure I would find village life boring. Am I wrong? Anyone know what Yang Talat is like?

I love living near the sea for the clean air and cool breezes.  I would miss that.

Nakhon Nowhere would describe it perfectly :cheesy:

About an from KK, which I wouldn't want to live at either.  That would be HELL ... You're screwed :coffee1:

Only saving grace is, KK is an hour west of YT.

Just east of YT, is 4 of the most boring provinces in Isan, that you don't even spend the night to explore, and simple drive through all 4 in the same day; Kalasin, Maha Sarakham,  Yasothon & Amnat Charoen.

Nothing to see till you hit the river towns, 2+ hrs away, and a bit far for day trips.

Khon Kaen is ok. Never heard of that village. Udon is the best city. KK is spread out so not good for walking.

We moved to Buriram last Sept. It was my girls dream to move here(from Bang Saray(23 kilo's from Pattaya) this place seems like a place you come to die at.Neither of us want to be here. so we now have a mansion we built on 7 Rai of land that we are selling & moving back to the ocean region.Seems the average temp is 103 (38 c-39 c) it is so hot compared to the oceanside & not much to do here either. Not impressed.

Your post gives the 2 biggest reasons:

1 - gf wants to live there

2 - you can own a lot of land cheaply and build a big house, which you can't do in most other places

Apart from reading books, walking, gym there really isn't much to do and those things can be done anywhere.

Yes, only the lonely or lonesome are there, maybe even hiding, so nobody can find them (criminal background?).

They took a rice fields plonker and pretend to be happy with nose picking over the day. Fulfilled life😂

Ah, nothing like a good bit of due diligence when splashing out on 7 rai of land and a mansion.

No doubt plenty of punters looking to buy a mansion in Buriram.

Probably not. We bought & sold 14 Rais in plots along with 4 houses & turned a decent profit on all, However this one is the only one that lacks Location Location Location. This was suppose to be the last house so location wasn't an issue. Hey I should have not been a nice guy & got roped into getting property & building a nice house. So I get to build yet one more house when it sells. I am not excited about this at 70 years old. The contractor & the crews basically all sucked & it is very very difficult to build upcountry. Live & learn.

Foreigners live in Isaan because they don't know any better.

I have many. One reason why guys stay in Isaan is they're unable financially to relocate

Sounds like you did well on the original developments. Good luck with your next (and hopefully last) project.

I do find it strange that whenever Isaan is mentioned, a few creeps come out of the woodwork to slag the place off, when they probably know very little about the place, other than from their bar stool dribbling in their beer at "girly-land"........🤔
